GPS Spoofing and the Potential Perils to Ships at Sea

Simple annoyance or potential security threat? Spoof is defined as “a hoax or swindle.”  In the world of electronic networks, a spoofing attack is a situation in which one program successfully masquerades as another by falsifying data and thereby gaining an improper advantage. We have all heard of, and possibly fallen victim to, fraudulent card readers (often inserted on self-service fuel pumps). The fraudulent card readers copy security information from the credit card, which is then used to clone an illegitimate credit card and incur improper charges on the victim’s credit card account.

Tesoro Promotes Three

Tesoro Petroleum Corporation today announced the following management promotions: Greg Wright, senior vice president and CFO; Sharlene Fey, vice president and controller; and Susan Pirotina, vice president, Communications. Wright was senior vice president, Financial Resources. He has more than 25 years of energy industry leadership experience, joining Tesoro in 1995. He has been responsible for finance, business development, forecasts and budgets and financial communications. Fey, who previously served as assistant controller. has held several Accounting positions of increasing responsibility since joining Tesoro in 1979. Pirotina was director, Investor Relations and joined Tesoro in 1981.

Morovich Joins Tidewater's Senior Management Team

Tidewater Inc. announced that Nancy Morovich has joined Tidewater as senior vice president. Morovich, who will report to Chairman, President and CEO Dean Taylor, will be responsible for strategic planning and analysis activities required to support the company's growth and business development initiatives, including potential mergers and acquisitions. She will also oversee Tidewater's information technology activities, and be involved in corporate compliance efforts. Morovich joins Tidewater following a 15 year career with Entergy Corporation where she held various positions in the finance organization. In her most recent position as Vice President, Planning and Financial Communications, she oversaw strategic planning, corporate planning and investor relations activities.
