Maersk Lines Up More Green Methanol Fuel Supply in the US

Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller - Maersk announced it is partnering with U.S.-based SunGas Renewables to secure a supply of green methanol to fuel its next generation of cleaner burning containerships.Under a recently signed letter of intent (LOI), SunGas Renewables, a spin-out of GTI Energy, will produce green methanol from multiple facilities that it will develop in the U.S. from which Maersk intends to offtake methanol. Maersk Inks Green Methanol Supply Deal with US-based Carbon Sink

Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller - Maersk announced it is partnering with U.S.-based Carbon Sink to secure a supply of green methanol for its next generation of cleaner burning containerships.Under a recently signed letter of intent (LOI), Carbon Sink will develop green methanol production facilities in the United States. The first facility will be co-located with the Red River Energy existing bioethanol plant in Rosholt, S.D. and will have a production capacity of approximately 100,000 tonnes per year from 2027.

Mass Maritime Puts on Offshore Wind Training Demo for Governor Baker

Governor Charlie Baker, Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Bethany Card, and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center CEO (MassCEC) Jennifer Daloisio joined Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) officials for a Global Wind Organization (GWO) training demonstration at the Academy. Nearly three years since helping launch MMA’s first-in-the-nation offshore wind crew transfer training facility, Governor Baker returned to observe a wind and life raft training and highlight the investments the Baker-Polito Administration is proposing to expand the offshore wind workforce further.

Rolls-Royce Opens Chinese R&D Test Site for mtu Engines

Rolls-Royce business unit Power Systems has opened a new test bench for mtu engines at the company’s location in Suzhou, China. DFP: New Florida Yacht Repair & Refit Facility

Earlier this week, after a nearly year-long process, the Ft. Pierce and St. Lucie County and Derecktor Shipyards signed a long-term agreement for the development and operation of a megayacht maintenance, repair and refit facility at the Port.According to Derecktor the new shipyard will be unique in the U.S. as it is reportedly the first facility designed and built specifically toaccommodate power and sailing yachts in the 200 ft. plus range.Derecktor Ft. Pierce (DFP), as the new yard will be known, changes that. It provides direct access from the Atlantic through Ft.

New Mega-Yacht Repair Center Coming in Florida

St. Lucie County Commissioners approved a 30-year contract with Derecktor Shipyards of Dania Beach to lease land from the county and operate a mega-yacht repair center and refit facility at the Port of Fort Pierce.After a nearly year-long process, the County and Derecktor Shipyards signed a long-term agreement for the development and operation of a megayacht maintenance, repair and refit facility at the Port."The new shipyard will be unique in the U.S. – the first facility designed and built specifically to accommodate power and sailing yachts in the 200 ft. plus range. Van Oord Contracts Tekmar Borssele 2 Offshore Wind Project

The subsea cables and engineering services provider Tekmar Energy announced that international marine contractor Van Oord has selected the patented Tekmar Cable Protection System (CPS) TekLink Mechanical Latch for the Borssele 2 (site III and IV) offshore wind farm.According to a press release from the offshore wind cable protection systems company, Borssele 2 consisting of 77 turbines and a total of 731.5 MW, will go into construction off the coast of Zeeland, the Netherlands in 2020.James Ritchie, CEO of Tekmar Group plc, said: “We are delighted that Van Oord has chosen Tekmar for Borssele 2. Carnival Unveils Miami Fleet Operations Center

Carnival Cruise Line has previewed its new Fleet Operations Center (FOC) in Miami, the largest and most advanced in the cruise industry. The 35,000-square-foot facility is custom-designed for hands-on, around-the-clock monitoring and support of the line's 26 cruise ships. The Carnival Cruise Line FOC is the first facility of its kind in South Florida and features a state-of-the-art tracking and data-analysis platform that enables real-time information sharing between Carnival ships and specialized shoreside teams designed to support fleet operations. It was unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony and interactive demonstration of its most innovative new high-tech features, which is anchored by a 74-foot-long video wall composed of 57 LED screens.

Skangas to Source LNG at Import Terminal on Isle of Grain

Skangas has announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with National Grid Grain LNG. Under the terms of the LoI, Skangas is to source LNG at the Grain LNG import terminal on the Isle of Grain in the UK. Skangas, which produces LNG, struck the deal with Grain LNG to ensure a reliable supply of LNG is available, which is critical to the fast-growing small-scale LNG market. As a result of this recent development, Skangas becomes the first small-scale LNG supplier to enter into such an agreement with a UK-based import terminal. Grain LNG, which operates primarily as a large-scale import terminal, is firmly committed to developing an LNG break bulk marine facility to make it possible for small vessels to reload and bunker LNG.

First Floating Dry Docks

The Operational and Maintenance departments of Antwerp Port Authority will shortly be merged to form a "Nautical & technical cluster." The new entity will have two floating dry docks at quay 602-612 for repairing its own fleet. This will put an end to the "fixed docks" on Dry Dock Island where the first facility was built in 1861. The new dry docks will be able to take vessels from 1500 to 1750 tonnes, with a width of up to 23 m and a draught of up to 7 m, and will be equipped with a crane with a lifting capacity of 10 tonnes. These floating structures will also be available to carry out repair and maintenance work for outside companies. The new dry docks look impressive, but the technology behind them is very simple.

Class NK Eyes Singapore Renewable Energy Facility

ClassNK has launched a feasibility study for a new marine renewable energy testing facility to be built in Singapore. The announcement was made at the 2014 Asian Clean Energy Summit held in Singapore on 28-29 October 2014. The study will pave the way for the establishment of the world’s first marine renewable energy testing facility to be located in the tropics. Demand for renewable energy has soared in recent years, fuelling high expectations for the use of marine renewable energy. Many governments around the world are already implementing policies to attract new marine renewable energy installations, and the large scale implementation of new renewable energy technologies is under consideration.

US Finalizes Overhaul of Natural Gas Export Reviews

The U.S. Energy Department has finalized a plan to revamp its process for approving liquefied natural gas exports, and as originally proposed the changes eliminate conditional approvals for LNG projects. Beginning Thursday, the department will only issue final rulings on whether exports are in the public interest after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or another authorized agency, has completed an environmental review of the project. The move will likely shift focus from the Energy Department, which has been criticized for moving too slowly, to the more costly FERC process, which assesses the safety and environmental impacts of LNG export facilities.

Navis N4 Upgraded in Global Terminal Expansion

Navis announced that following extensive testing, Global Terminal (Global) became the first facility in North America to successfully upgrade to the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS) version 2.5 on March 3, 2014. Located in the Port of New York/New Jersey, the implementation supports the terminal’s semiautomation. Navis technology allows Global to increase capacity and productivity on the existing facility while minimizing environmental impact. In November 2011, the terminal was the first facility to successfully deploy Navis N4 in North America. Serving the most concentrated and affluent market on the U.S. East Coast, the latest implementation is noteworthy as the company ensured there were no disruptions to customers and stakeholders.

Injazat to Handle Critical IT Requirements of Abu Dhabi Ship Building

According to AMEinfo.com, Injazat Data Systems has been appointed by Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), to support the critical IT requirements of ADSB, the sophisticated military and commercial shipbuilding facility. Under the terms of the 5-year key IT outsourcing deal, Injazat will host ADSB's data at its 2,000-sqm design-certified Tier IV Data Centre, the first facility of its kind in the Middle East. The deal includes IT outsourcing, enhancement and virtualization of the ship builder's existing IT infrastructure and Enterprise Resource Planning implementation.
