MOL, DSME Collaborate on New FSRU Tech

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has entered into an agreement with Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) to jointly develop a new technology to reduce environmental impact for Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU).The new technology named ‘Cryo-Powered Regas’ will enable to utilize the LNG cold energy, which used to be disposed of, as power generation energy by adopting the Organic Rankine Cycle in the regasification process of the FSRU.Cryo-Powered Regas technology is expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emission of FSRUs significantly.MOL and DSME plan to test the technology…

Excelerate to Manage FSRUs In-house

Houston-based Excelerate Energy’s unit, Excelerate Technical Management (ETM) has been authorized to operate as ship manager for its parent company’s entire fleet of floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).The Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Government of Belgium have awarded Interim Documents of Compliance (DoC) under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code to ETM.The Interim DoC is the result of an audit of ETM’s safety management system, confirming compliance with ISM standards which ensure the safe operation of its crew and vessels.“Excelerate has achieved a company milestone with the successful launch of our ship management services. Qatargas Delivers 1st Cargo to Summit LNG

KN Bags $148Mn Loan for its LNG Terminal

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) and Lithuanian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil terminal operator AB 'Klaipedos Nafta' (KN) have signed a EUR 134.1 million (USD 148 million) loan agreement to optimize costs of LNG terminal.The 25-year maturity loan will be directed to finance the rent payable for the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).“Through this loan agreement we are continuing to support Lithuania´s security of energy supply, a strategically important objective for our member country”, said Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO.Currently, the FSRU used for LNG import to Lithuania is leased from the Norwegian Höegh LNG on a ten-year arrangement that expires in 2024.

Boskalis Bags El Salvador FSRU Gig

Dutch dredging, offshore and heavylift company Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has been awarded a major contract to connect an offshore Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU)  to an onshore power plant in El Salvador.The contract was awarded by Energia del Pacifico (EDP), a 378-MW liquefied natural gas (LNG)-to-power infrastructure project at the Port of Acajutla, El Salvador. The project will commence early 2020 and is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2021.‎The project entails the construction of a two-kilometer-long gas pipeline connection from the onshore power plant to an offshore FSRU including the mooring and hook-up.

Wison, GTT Ink LNG Floater Accord

French technology firm Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT) has signed a technical assistance and license agreement (TALA)  for the use of its membrane solutions for liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels with Chinese shipyard Wison Offshore & Marine (WOM).The deal covers equipment of floating liquefied natural gas units (FLNG), floating storage and regasification units (FSRU), floating storage regasification power (FSRP) units and LNG carriers, using membrane solutions developed by the French LNG containment specialist.WOM is a pioneer in floating LNG in China, being the first in the world to deliver barge-based FLNG and FSRU on a turn-key basis.

Golar Power Wins Brazil Plant Gig

Nakilat Posts 10.5% Surge in 9 Month's Net Profit

Qatari shipping and maritime company Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) reported a 10.5% year-on-year increase in net profit to QR728mn (USD 200 million) in the first nine months of this year.Nakilat, which has the largest LNG shipping fleet in the world, comprising 69 vessels, said in a press note that its positive financial performance can be primarily attributed to better operational performance in managing its liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessels.The company also realized higher revenues on additional income from the acquisition of two additional LNG carriers and one Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) in 2018…

Excelerate Charters Out Maran Gas FSRU

Excelerate Energy and Maran Gas Maritime have signed a five-year bareboat charter agreement (BBC) for the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) hull 2477.During the five-year BBC Excelerate will have the option to purchase Hull 2477. MGM is currently building Hull 2477 at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard and is scheduled for delivery in April 2020, when the BBC will start.The vessel will have a storage capacity of 173,400 m3 and will be capable of operating as both an FSRU and a fully tradable LNG carrier.Hull 2477 will join Excelerate's existing fleet of nine FSRUs, all built by DSME, and will serve Excelerate's portfolio of regasification customers.

Mayer Brown Advises on HK FSRU Project

Law firm Mayer Brown advised CLP Power Hong Kong on the Hong Kong offshore LNG terminal project, which involves the use of floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) technology for the first time in Hong Kong. Höegh LNG Wins FSRU Deal with Cheniere

Norway-based floating LNG giant Höegh LNG has signed a time charter contract for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Höegh Galleon with Cheniere Marketing International.The time charter commences in September 2019 after the delivery of the unit, Höegh LNG’s tenth, from Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.The terms of the time charter ensure the Höegh Galleon’s availability to serve the AIE project in Port Kembla, Australia, where Höegh LNG is the FSRU provider on a back-to-back basis. AGL Selects Höegh Esperanza FSRU

Norway-based floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) company Höegh LNG announced that its floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Höegh Esperanza has been selected by AGL Energy Limited for the Crib Point project in Victoria Australia.According to a stock exchange notice from the FSRU provider, who owns and operates a global fleet of 10 floating LNG import terminals, Höegh Esperanza has both a closed loop and an open loop system and is because of this considered by AGL to be a better fit for the operational requirements arising from the Environment Effects Statement (EES) currently been undertaken by the Victorian Government.The EES is expected to be concluded no earlier than late H1 2020.

Bangladesh's 2nd LNG Terminal Begins Operations

Bangladesh has employed its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal with the beginning of operations of floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) 'Summit LNG' offshore Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal.According to Excelerate Energy, the FSRU completed commissioning of the LNG terminal, owned by Summit LNG Terminal, on April 29, 2019. Nakilat - Keppel Completes First FSRU Project

LNG Rates Hit Record in 4Q: Flex LNG

Record Level of New Orders for GTT in 2018
