Demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to power ships will rise this year on attractive prices, while more dual-fuel vessels join the global fleet. Prices of LNG delivered as marine fuel at the world's largest bunker hub Singapore are at steep discounts of nearly $100 per metric ton compared with conventional 0.5% very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), industry sources report. That is a far cry from record premiums of more than $1,000 a ton seen in September 2023, based on data from S&P Global Platts published on industry coalition SEA-LNG's website…

Interview: John Batten, CEO, Twin Disc

John Batten (Photo: Twin Disc)

How have major events such as the U.S./China trade war, oil price fall and COVID-19 impacted Twin Disc’s commercial marine business to date, and what adjustments have you made in response? These are the three things that I’ve been highlighting in employee communications and with investors over the last few months. For us, COVID was just the third punch after the other two. CEZ to Close its Bulgarian Thermal Plant

Czech power utility CEZ will wind down operations of its coal-burning plant in Bulgaria on Jan. 1, after it failed to get an exemption from European Union environmental rules, the company said on Saturday. CEZ had hoped Brussels may allow the plant to continue operations during the winter as part of measures to secure energy stability given the risk of disruptions due to EU tensions with Russia, which provides almost all of Bulgaria's gas supplies. "Despite the general agreement on temporary inclusion of the power plant into the system during the winter of 2015 in case of a gas crisis, the European Commission did not reply in connection to the plant's operational permits," CEZ's Bulgarian unit said in a statement.

Bangladesh Government Pushes for Gas Exploration in Bay

As part of a measure to resolve future gas crisis, the government of Bangladesh in October may announce the third round of block bidding for oil and gas exploration in the offshore and deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal. However, the government is reportedly also ready to open a number of on-shore blocks, especially in the western region of the country, in the same bidding. There is a court injunction on bidding of the on-shore blocks. The bidding will offer attractive gas price prospects, but it also withdraws zero corporate tax facilities for oil companies--a benefit that was offered in the previous bidding of blocks. The biggest…
