Oriental Jubilee: World First with "SCRUBBER READY" Notation

DNV GL welcomed the Unique Shipping Group’s new vessel Oriental Jubilee into class when it was christened in Ulsan, Korea recently. The 84,000 cu. m. LPG carrier was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Ulsan and is the first vessel to be awarded the DNV GL SCRUBBER READY notation. The SCRUBBER READY notation is an important development, as making space for new technologies and equipment onboard commercial ships is a conundrum for shipowners as they decide which technology to implement to reduce emissions.

Shipdock, Spliethoff Combine Forces

Shipdock has reached an agreement with Spliethoff, the Amsterdam-based ship-owning company, for the largest exhaust gas scrubber unit installed so far on board a commercial vessel. Due to forthcoming new IMO sulphur legislation, Shipdock is expecting an increased demand for this type of conversion. This is the first scrubber capable of handling several exhaust gas inlets simultaneously (two main engines and two auxiliary engines producing a combined engine power of 28.000 kW) It will be installed on Spliethoff’s vessel m.v. Dynatite Seals Largest Immersion Tunnel

More than 35 years ago Beele Engineering started offering gastight penetrations for utility pipes, preventing gas explosions due to leaking gas inlets. The latest specialist sealing concerns the immersion tunnel near the South-Korean city of Busan that is being immersed by Mergor, a subsidiary of Strukton. The deepest element of this tunnel was placed recently at a depth of 50 metres. The Geoje Fixed Link connects the second capital of South Korea, Busan, with the Geoje peninsula, reducing the travel time between the two from 2.5 hours to just 50 minutes. The tunnel is 3.2 kilometres long.
