HyBlend - Chickens and Eggs in Technology Adoption

Copyright alison1414/AdobeStock

I will readily confess that 20 years ago I was not convinced that EV’s were the answer to sustainable energy. Instead, I had long been a fan of hydrogen. I was well aware that there were technical issues associated with hydrogen, but was equally aware that, for total sustainable energy, a transportable fuel is needed and hydrogen seemed to be the way to go.I envisioned hydrogen generation from sustainable sources (wind, solar, etc) and the use of hydrogen with fuel cells in cars, ships and with gas turbines in airplanes.

Two tankers carrying U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Mexico are expected to arrive on Thursday in the country's Altamira and Manzanillo ports, government officials said and Refinitiv Eikon data showed, part of emergency purchases by the government to ease interrupted gas supplies.Mexico resorted to LNG supplies to partially offset a gas deficit for power generation after cold-weather froze several key gaslines crossing the U.S. border. MAN Diesel and Turbo to Power Giant Crane Vessel

MAN Diesel & Turbo has signed a contract with Sembcorp Marine in Singapore to supply the dual-fuel propulsion system – including exhaust-gas after-treatment – for a New Semi-submersible Crane Vessel (NSCV) for Heerema Offshore Services. The scope of the contract – signed on 30 October, 2015 – provides for 12 × MAN 8L51/60DF four-stroke engines + 12 × MAN SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems. MAN Diesel & Turbo states that the total power output of the engines is some 96 MW and believes it – with the exception of power barges – to be one of the largest engine installations the world has ever seen aboard a single ship. Certainly, it is the first vessel of this size to feature dualfuel technology and, upon completion, will be the largest vessel of its kind globally.

Two Dead in Petrobras Offshore Accident

Two workers died at a construction project at a Brazilian oil terminal operated by state-run Petrobras on Tuesday, adding to a string of fatal and life-threatening accidents, a union representing oil workers said in a statement. The workers drowned after scaffolding they were erecting collapsed at the end of a pier operated by Transpetro, Petrobras' pipeline and shipping unit, the union, known as FUP, said. The pier was at Transpetro's Barra do Riacho Terminal in Espirito Santo state. Israel Rolls Out Port Privatization Program

The Israeli Government will privatize its two main ports, Ashdod and Haifa in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The plans were proposed by the Finance Ministry and have been approved by the Prime Minister. The Finance Ministry said the ports would be sold in a private sale, not on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, either in stages or all at one time. Ori Yogev, who is officially the head of the Government Companies Authority, a unit of the finance ministry said that would not stand in the way of the government floating up to 49 percent of the Ashdod port - one of two main seaports on the Mediterranean coast - on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) in November or December. The controlling stake will be sold in 2020.

Dresser Gets ABS Fire Rated Approval from

Dresser has been granted ABS Type Approval for fire rated couplings that meet or exceed the previous 2008 ABS rule changes. Typical applications for the ABS approved Dresser coupling include above deck inert gas lines, cargo oil lines, bilge systems, fuel oil transfers, and lube oil transfer systems. Each authentic Dresser approved coupling can be qualified to a working pressure of 19.2bar (275 PSI). Fire testing has been successfully conducted to the stringent guidelines of ISO 19921 & 19922 requirements. Dresser couplings are used for marine piping systems for their ability to absorb vibration, expansion and contraction while providing lifetime, leak-proof dependability. (www.dresser.com)
