A new dedicated helpline aims to support Indian seafarers and their families as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to place added pressures on maritime workers globally.The round-the-clock helpline was set up by Sailors Welfare Association, an affiliate of international maritime welfare charity Sailors’ Society, after the charity saw a marked increase in calls for help from desperate seafarers, many of whom had lost incomes or were anxious and struggling to cope. MPA Enhances Safety At Sea Measures
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has stepped up its safety checks and measures under the ambit of the Safety@Sea Singapore Campaign."With the onset of the Northeast Monsoon season, which may prevail up to March 2019, occurrences of moderate to heavy thunder storms, strong winds and choppy seas can increase the risks at sea," warns MPA. MPA urges all port users and members of public who are travelling by ferry or cruise to exercise care when on board, and to remain vigilant and safe at sea. Cargotec Secures Vietnamese Pipelayer with Mooring Solutions
A contract for mooring equipment for a pipelaying barge marks Cargotec’s successful entry to the Vietnamese offshore market. In July this year, Cargotec won a contract from the joint stock company Vinh Nam (VAM JSC)/TECMACH to supply mooring equipment outfits for Vietsovpetro’s 110m-long by 30.5m-breadth pipelaying crane barge, Con Son. Anchor-handling Capabilities Secure New Order For Cargotec
Cargotec has won a contract to supply two sets of MacGregor anchor-handling systems for two anchor-handling tug /supply / oil recovery vessels under construction at a Chinese Shipyard for a Singaporean owner. The anchor-handling equipment is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2011 and it will be manufactured at Cargotec’s facilities for offshore load handling in Singapore and China. • telescopic deck cranes.
