NBBB Delivers for Linblad Expeditions

Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) was contracted by Lindblad Expeditions in December 2015, to construct two (2) new 100 guest passenger cruise vessels for exploratory cruising in Alaska; Baja, California; Pacific Northwest; Costa Rica & Panama, and Belize. Both vessels have joined the Lindblad Expeditions fleet.The first vessel, National Geographic Quest, was delivered in July 2017 and has voyaged to Alaska, Costa Rica and Panama. A review of the ferry industry’s latest challenges and opportunities attracted a record 340 delegates to Vancouver last week for the 39th annual Interferry conference. The global trade association event exposed a string of concerns – notably over punitive safety and environmental regulations – but also highlighted the financial potential of new routes, onboard shopping incentives and the use of LNG fuel. Alongside sessions on the future of the industry, Canada-based CEO Len Roueche outlined a vision for maintaining Interferry’s influential lobbying role among politicians and regulators.

Federal Officials Approve Plans to Replace Mukilteo Terminal

The 60-year-old Mukilteo Ferry Terminal is one step closer to replacement. On Friday, Aug. 22 the Federal Transit Administration signed a record of decision allowing the Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division to design and construct a new ferry terminal in Mukilteo, Wash. The Mukilteo terminal is one of the state’s busiest terminals, serving nearly 4 million passengers last year. However, the terminal is vulnerable to earthquakes and in need of major repairs to continue safe, reliable ferry service between Mukilteo and Clinton.

Public Invited to Join Last Sailings of Veteran WSF Ferry

The public is invited to bid “bon voyage” to Washington State Ferries’ (WSF) oldest ship, the 87-car 'Evergreen State', with one last ride from Friday Harbor to Anacortes Sunday, June 29, 2014. Crews will decommission the vessel and retire it from service following this final sailing. The Evergreen State was the first vessel custom built for Washington State Ferries in 1954.“This remarkable ferry has served our customers well for six decades,” said Interim Assistant Secretary for Ferries Division Capt. George Capacci. In the recent past she plied the waters of San Juan County between Anacortes and Sidney B.C. The ferry currently serves the interisland route.

Newest Puget Sound Ferry to Arrive

The Kennewick, the third Kwa-di Tabil Class Ferry, is under construction at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle

Crews will test the Kennewick in coming weeks. If you happen to be in the right place at the right time, you may catch a glimpse of the newest state ferry sailing around Puget Sound in the next couple weeks. Builder Vigor Shipyards plans to start testing the ferry Kennewick this week before delivering it to Washington State Ferries. “We’re looking forward to Vigor really putting the Kennewick to the test in sea trials before we add it to our fleet,” said Captain George Capacci, deputy chief of construction and operations. The first two days of sea trials are scheduled for Oct. 6-7.

Chetzemoka Stays in Service During Busy Summer Weekends

Vessel will go to drydock for repairs mid-week. PORT TOWNSEND – The Port Townsend and Whidbey Island communities have been seeing record-breaking numbers of tourists as vacationers take advantage of the last few weekends of summer. To help accommodate another influx of tourists expected this weekend, Washington State Ferries (WSF) is scheduling needed repairs to the Chetzemoka for mid-week. WSF has been running the Chetzemoka after temporary repairs were made to the vessel last week, but yesterday a custom-manufactured part arrived from Wisconsin and the vessel has been scheduled for drydock.

SeaWave Delivers for Alaska High Speed Ferry

SeaWave, LLC has installed the SeaWave Integrator 3.0 aboard the Alaska Marine Highway System's (AMHS) high speed ferry "Fairweather," as it embarks on a one month trip for delivery from Bridgeport, Connecticut to Juneau, Alaska today. The builder of the vessel, Derecktor Shipyards, wanted to have a communications system on board for email and weather tracking for its delivery voyage. Working with SeaWave, this has been accomplished. The SeaWave Integrator will provide voice and email communications to the Derecktor delivery captain and 10 crew members during transit of the first commercial ferry to be built to the international High Speed Craft (HSC) code in the United States.

Alaska Awards Metlakatla Ferry Contract to Conrad Industries

Conrad Industries emerged as the winner to build a new ferry for the high profile customers Alaska Marine Highway. AMH sees the signing as the ushering in of a new era in marine transportation for the community of Metlakatla with the signing of the contract. The new vessel will provide dedicated service between Metlakatla and Ketchikan, two of the Inside Passage's southernmost communities. Southeast Region Director, Bob Doll , represented the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities at the signing ceremony on November 12, 2002. "This ferry means better service to the communities of Metlakatla and Ketchikan and less cost to the State of Alaska. That's one of the objectives of the Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan.

The new vessel will provide dedicated service between Metlakatla and Ketchikan, two of the Inside Passage’s southernmost communities. Derecktor Cuts Plate for Alaskan Ferry

Derecktor Shipyards held a plate cutting ceremony at its Bridgeport Connecticut facility for the first piece of plate cut for the highspeed ferry M/V Chenega. the ferry. foot high-speed ferries for the Alaska Marine Highway System. Chenega, were City Councilman Gary Graham and Kate Tesar. Bridgeport Port Authority. connecting the ports of Cordova, Valdez, and Whittier. 2004 with the M/V Chenega expected to enter service one year later. with airline-style seating, an available snack bar, and minimal ship motions. will be significantly shorter than what is possible with conventional ferries. these communities. shipbuilding since these will be the first vessels of their kind ever built in this country. designs, developed expressly for the Alaska project.
