Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced Thursday that Donny Dorsey has been named vice president of operations at its Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Miss. Dorsey, formerly ship program manager for all DDG waterfront efforts at Ingalls Shipbuilding, replaces George Jones, who will retire April 1 after 37 years of service.“George’s expertise in shipbuilding has influenced generations of shipbuilders and the capabilities of the shipyard,” said Kari Wilkinson, president of Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Huntington Ingalls Industries announced Thursday that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division will reactivate part of its shipbuilding facilities that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The site on the east bank of the Pascagoula River is the original Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp., founded in 1938. According to the shipbuilder, its reactivation will restore the facility’s ability to support Ingalls’ current ship construction and modernization programs as well as help the company better prepare for future work, including next-generation amphibious assault ships and surface combatants.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced the appointment of two vice presidents at its Ingalls Shipbuilding division. George Jones has been appointed vice president of operations, and Tim Farrell has been appointed vice president of new Navy programs. In his new position, Jones will be responsible for all facets of ship construction through delivery. He is responsible for enhancing cost and schedule performance, process and facility improvements and driving production strategies across all Ingalls programs. Jones began his career with Ingalls in 1984 as an apprentice.

The amphibious assault ship America (LHA 6) returned to Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division Friday following successful acceptance sea trials in the Gulf of Mexico. Ingalls' test and trials team successfully demonstrated more than 220 test events to the U.S. Navy's board of inspection and survey (INSURV). "It was a proud three days at sea, and America proved she is a quality ship," said LHA 6 Program Manager George Jones. "The LHA 6 team's tireless and diligent effort paid off as our scores from INSURV indicated.

Ingalls' test and trials team started with dock trials Monday and then spent five days operating the ship at sea, where it conducted more than 200 test events. "It's an awesome feeling riding this ship, knowing the hard work that took place to get her ready for sea trials," said George Jones, Ingalls' LHA 6 program manager. "The LHA 6 team continued to work diligently during our time underway.

Huntington Ingalls Industries hosts Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert. Adm. Greenert met with company leadership and toured the amphibious assault ship America (LHA 6) at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. "We're at Ingalls to see the home of shipbuilding for amphibious ships," Adm. Greenert said. "Shipbuilding is our future, and it's the Navy's future, and clearly Ingalls is a major part of that. We have to understand how to build effective and efficient ships.
