New Drydock for FMT Shipyard and Repair

Gulf Island Marine Fabricators has recently delivered a new drydock named the J.B. Barthelemy to FMT Shipyard and Repair. The new drydock, which is 180 feet long and 73 feet wide with 63-foot clearance between the wingwalls, seven-foot deep pontoon with 18-foot high wing walls, has a 2,400-short-ton capacity and will be located at FMT Shipyard and Repair yard on the Harvey Canal. Cape Horn Delivered into Service

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG), a naval architecture and marine engineering firm with offices in Seattle and Ketchikan, announced the delivery into service of the Cape Horn, a Specialty Oilfield Vessel. EBDG partnered with Gulf of Mexico Operator SeaMar, LLC and Gulf Island Marine Fabricators on the class design and production engineering for the ship. "We would like to congratulate our valued client, Darrel Plaisance of SeaMar, LLC on the delivery of their EB-220CC and the shipyard on a fine build," stated Gulf Coast General Manager, Keith Keller.

River Towboat Pair Order for Gulf Island Fab

Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc. (GIFI) informs that through its subsidiary Gulf Island Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., it has signed a contract for the fabrication of two 8,000 bhp twin screw diesel-engined river towboats. Revenue backlog and man-hours associated with this project will be reported in connection with the Company’s announcement of financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2014. GIFI adds that the contract includes an option (expires March 15, 2015) for a third 8,000 bhp towboat that would be included in backlog upon exercise of the option, should the customer elect to do so. GIMF Completes Construction of New Liftboat, The Bellator

Gulf Island Marine Fabricators (GIMF) has just completed construction of a new liftboat, The Bellator, for C.S. Liftboats, Inc, Abbeville, La. The Bellator is ABS Classed A-1, AMS, and Mobile Offshore Unit. The new boat, designed by A.K. Suda Inc. Metairie, LA measures 150’x118’x12’-8” and carries accommodations for 46 people. EBDG New Orleans Innovates OSV Design with New EB-210 CC

Elliott Bay Design Group's (EBDG) New Orleans office partnered with Gulf Island Marine Fabricators, LLC. on the class design and production engineering for the EB-210CC OSV (Offshore Support Vessel). The scope of this new design project included detail design, structural, mechanical, piping and outfitting design as well as 3-D assembly drawings of the vessel structure utilizing ShipConstructor software. In addition, EBDG is the primary point of contact for all regulatory body requests for information.

Iraqi Navy Receives Two US Navy OSV's

The Iraqi navy and the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command mark delivery of two 60-meter Offshore Support Vessels (OSV's). The delivery ceremony was held recently at the Umm Qasr naval facility in Iraq. The two OSVs, procured as part U.S. Navy's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Program, will help reconstitute Iraq's ability to enforce maritime sovereignty and security in the Northern Arabian Gulf. "This occasion reflects the important ties that bind our governments and our commitment to supporting s strong coalition partnership that is based on mutual respect and understanding," said Vice Adm.

US Shipyard Contracted to Build Liftboat

Gulf Island Marine Fabricators to construct a 335-Class semi-submersible for Montco Offshore. All U.S. Coasts enjoying upswing in business. For many U.S. builders, last year closed on a happier note than 2010 – when the BP spill, offshore drilling ban and weak U.S. and global economies hurt business. In 2011, new orders for vessels for the oil industry and for the U.S. and foreign governments promised to keep a number of builders busy in 2012. A need to comply with new federal regulations created work, and repair activity grew. The upshot is that coastal economies are getting a needed boost. But some companies find themselves with more customers than they can immediately handle.

Liftboats: Unique Above the Sea

\While most boats have to find shelter or tough it out in heavy weather, the lift boat simply jacks up her hull and avoids the waves. Conventional vessels are often defined by their hull length, but it is the length of the jacking legs that is the significant number for lift boats. Having recently delivered a lift boat with massive 320-foot legs, naval architect A. K. Suda, Ltd. are currently overseeing the construction of two of their latest designs. The larger of the two has 300-foot lift legs.

Genoa Design Wins Project for Iraqi Navy

Genoa Design International Ltd. has won a contract to provide production design and lofting for two196.8 ft Offshore Support Vessels for the Iraqi Navy. The ships, which will play a central role in rebuilding Iraq’s maritime security capability, will support and defend the country’s offshore oil terminals. Two U.S. based companies are leading the project: RiverHawk Fast Sea Frames in Florida, as primary contractor and Gulf Island Marine Fabricators, L.L.C. in Louisiana, as construction sub-contractor. The project falls under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, with Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., as contracting entity for the Iraqi Government. Vessel completion is expected by December 2011.Genoa Design International Ltd.
