Arcosa Marine Products Joins Green Marine

Arcosa Marine Products, a manufacturer of barges used to transport cargo on U.S. inland waterways, is the newest participant in Green Marine – the largest voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry.Part of Dallas based Arcosa, Inc., Arcosa Marine Products manufactures dry cargo barges, including flat-deck and hopper barges for the transport of a range of products that include grain, coal, and aggregates. The company also manufactures tank barges that carry petroleum, fertilizer, ethanol, chemicals, and other liquid cargos.

Transas Upgrades Simulator Complex in Batumi

On November 27, 2014, President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and President of Latvia Andris Berzins visited Batumi State Maritime Academy (BSMA) opened the renovated simulation center. The Full Mission Offshore simulator, which has become the extension of the existing simulation complex, has been developed and installed by the Transas Marine. The full mission Transas offshore simulator with 270 degrees visualization is based on the Transas NTPRO 5000 software and will be used for training in dynamic positioning operations.

Transas Offshore Simulator for Batumi State Maritime Academy

Batumi State Maritime Academy (BSMA) and Transas Marine Black Sea today signed a contract for supply and installation of the Transas Full Mission Offshore simulator. The simulator complex will be one of the most advanced in the Black Sea region. The full mission Transas offshore simulator with 270 degrees visualisation is based on the Transas NTPRO 5000 software and will be used for training in dynamic positioning operations. The simulator will enable training of crews involved in transfer and supply of mobile offshore units. Training course will be accredited by the Nautical Institute. Specially for the project, Transas will develop simulator areas for three ports of Georgia: Batumi, Poti and Kulevi. In addition, the simulator will use the next generation universal hardware solutions.

At the end of May 2014, Batumi State Maritime Academy (BSMA) and Transas Marine Black Sea signed a contract for supply and installation of the Transas Full Mission Offshore simulator. Vessel operators seek protection by hedging fuel needs. It’s easier than you might think. Some workboat operators defend themselves against higher diesel prices by buying futures contracts, while others purchase fuel at prices fixed in advance from their suppliers. Others, perhaps less-savvy and/or smaller companies, however, take their chances by buying in the spot market. While some operators are uncertain about their future fuel requirements and consumption, domestic ferry operators for the most part know exactly what they’ll need in the year ahead.

Subsea Hardware Spending to Double to $124 Billion

Douglas-Westwood (DW) forecast subsea hardware spending is set to double to $124 billion during 2013-2017 compared to the preceding five-year period. The new third edition of Douglas-Westwood’s Subsea Hardware Market Forecast has launched analyses the market through to 2017, examining the key activity trends to provide detailed insight for major players and new entrants alike. “The prospects for the subsea hardware sector look good, however, players will face significant challenges over the forecast period,” said report lead author Angela MacCormack, an example is Brazil which accounts for 14% of our forecast subsea Capex. New Technology to Debut at Europort

Europort 2001 — the 30th edition of the exhibition — scheduled for November 13 to 17 at the Amsterdam RAI, is traditionally an event where companies from around the globe debut innovative new marine equipment and technology. While the exhibition is often considered a regional affair, the event indeed fulfills its international billing with a roster of more than 550 companies from around the globe, and halls filled with ship owners and operators with an equal international distribution. In 1999 exhibition management stated that the event drew more than 30,000 visitors from 88 countries. This year's event will offer a few extras, including a special focus on inland shipping.

New Consoles For Navi-Sailor

Transas Marine has switched to a new-generation, modern design of hardware for its Navi-Sailor range of navigation systems. The new hardware solutions from Transas are available as full-size pedestal mount and desktop consoles. The updated hardware has been designed to support the new software technology used in the Transas Navi-Sailor line, which required improved hardware performance. The hardware set comprises a console and built-in RS-3 marine computer, which will be applicable as the standard Marine Processing Unit (MPU) for the entire range of the company's navigation products. The desktop version is the perfect solution for small craft or retrofit.
