DNV GL Secures Shell Penguins Contract

DNV GL has won a cross-service contract to support Shell's Penguins Field redevelopment on the UK Continental Shelf.The contract with Shell involves a team which will deliver an integrated verification and class project for the operator's Penguins floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.DNV GL is providing integrated Verification and Class services to the project. This will be led by a team in UK Oil & Gas, collaborating with the DNV GL Offshore Class unit in Norway and the DNV GL yard team in China and the Philippines.Justin Fletcher, DNV GL’s Project Manager for the mega project says, "DNV GL has been supporting Shell with this project since 2015, and it is very exciting to finally reach the execution phase.

DNV GL Support for Dana Petroleum Western Isles FPSO

DNV GL has been supporting Dana Petroleum on the development of the Western Isles field and the Western Isles floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel as it progressed towards first oil, which was achieved earlier this month. DNV GL has been engaged by Dana since 2012, as the classification society, verification body and marine warranty provider on the Western Isles FPSO, a Sevan Series 400 cylindrical monohull with a 44,000 bbl/d topsides facility. Uniquely, it is not only the first complete engineering procurement and construction (EPC) FPSO project constructed in China, but also the first offshore unit in China to comply with the UK continental shelf legislation requirements.

DNV GL, Chrysaor Pact for North Sea Operations

DNV GL has secured a combined engineering services agreement with Chrysaor Holdings Ltd. to deliver a unique range of services to the company in support of its North Sea Operations. Chrysaor recently completed the acquisition of a package of assets in the UK North Sea from Shell for a price of $3.0 billion. The transaction sees Chrysaor become the leading independent E&P company in the UK. It currently has more than 400 staff working in the UKCS. Hari Vamadevan, Regional Manager UK & West Africa, DNV GL - Oil & Gas says: ”We are delighted that we have been given the opportunity to work with Chrysaor and the hope is, that the agreement will form part of long term continuous relationship. Chrysaor now holds stakes in 10 fields and blocks, including the BP-operated Schiehallion.

Largest Underwater CO2 Release from Pipeline - DNV GL

Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) is gaining momentum to meet stringent climate change goals and secure energy supplies for the future. To fully understand the environmental and safety implications associated with the development of CO2 pipelines, DNV GL is conducting the oil and gas industry’s largest ever controlled release of carbon dioxide from an underwater pipeline at its full-scale Spadeadam Testing and Research Centre, located in Cumbria, UK. The planned underwater release, scheduled to start in January, is part of an international Joint Industry Project (JIP) ‘Sub-C-O2’ to develop safety guidelines on the use of offshore CO2 pipelines.

DNV GL Wins Statoil Contract for the North Sea

DNV GL U.K. has secured the third party ICP (Independent Competent Person) multimillion GBP contract, related to compliance with U.K. Offshore Regulations for the Statoil Mariner project. The award is the culmination of two years’ of project FEED support, assisting Statoil in developing Performance Standards and the Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) under the U.K. Offshore Safety Case Regulations for the Production Drilling Quarters (PDQ), Subsea, Umbilical’s, Risers and Flowlines (SURF) and the Floating Storage Unit (FSU).

DNV Calls For More Transparency and Better Preparation

DNV is urging the global oil and gas industry to strengthen its focus on safety risk analysis and be better prepared for incidents ahead of the Piper 25 conference. The organization will present two papers at the conference, which is a special three day event taking place at the AECC in Aberdeen from June 18-20 and will be chaired by Oil & Gas UK chief executive, Malcolm Webb. It is aimed at bringing together people from across the oil and gas industry to reflect on the lessons learnt from the tragedy of 25 years, review how far offshore safety has evolved since and to reinforce industry commitment to continuous improvement. A high turnout is expected to attend the commemorative event.
