The Board of Directors of Matson, Inc. has appointed Stanley Kuriyama as a director of the company, effective June 23, 2016.   Kuriyama is the Executive Chairman of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. He first joined Alexander & Baldwin in 1992, and from January 2010 until his retirement in December 2015, he served as Alexander & Baldwin's president and chief executive officer. Prior to joining Alexander & Baldwin, Kuriyama was a partner in the law firm of Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright, specializing in real estate and real estate financing. He is a 1977 graduate of Harvard Law School.

Mike Detmer has been appointed to the position of chief operating officer at New Nautical Coatings, Inc. Based at the company’s headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., Detmer will report to Erik Norrie, co-founder and chief executive officer at Sea Hawk Paints. His responsibilities will include overseeing day-to-day operations as well as executing key strategic growth initiatives. Prior to joining New Nautical Coatings, Inc. and the Sea Hawk brand, Detmer spent two years as president of the Niles division of Nortek, Inc.’s AVC Group.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said on Tuesday he has tapped former state Attorney General John Degnan to chair the board of the embattled Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The board's former chairman, David Samson, resigned in March amid reports that federal prosecutors in Manhattan were looking into a potential conflict of interest between Samson's role as chairman and his private law firm. Cruise line, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has appointed Rear Admiral William D. Baumgartner, U.S. Coast Guard, Retired, as the cruise line’s Senior Vice President of Marine Operations. Executive Director Len Waterworth has  implemented a reorganization of the management structure of the Port of Houston Authority designed to enhance efficiencies, drive higher profitability and ensure greater accountability, consistent with the Port Authority's vision and mission. The reorganization shifts to a structure that is based on collaborative teams with specific operations. Waterworth, who was appointed to his post in April, has named a leadership team at the Deputy Executive Director level to lead the new operational divisions.

Ray Mabus, former Mississippi governor and U.S. ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was sworn in today as the 75th Secretary of the Navy. Leading the Navy and Marine Corps, Secretary Mabus will be responsible for an annual budget in excess of $150 billion and almost 900,000 people. The Secretary of the Navy is responsible for conducting all the affairs of the Department of the Navy, including recruiting, organizing, supplying, equipping, training, and mobilizing. Additionally, he oversees the construction, outfitting, and repair of naval ships, equipment and facilities, and is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies and programs that are consistent with the national security policies and objectives established by the president and the secretary of defense.

President George W. Bush announced his intention to nominate Michael Chertoff, of New Jersey, to be Secretary of Homeland Security. He currently serves as a United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Chertoff previously served as Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice. As Assistant Attorney General, he helped trace the terrorist attacks to the al-Qaida network after September 11 and increased information sharing within the FBI. Prior to joining the Bush Administration, Judge Chertoff was a Partner in law firm of Latham & Watkins. From 1994 to 1996, he served as Special Counsel for the U.S. Senate Whitewater Committee.
