FLAGSHIP Project Delivers Outstanding Results

On May 31st 2011 FLAGSHIP, a part EU-funded maritime transport project, will conclude having facilitated the research and development of no less than 10 new maritime solutions, from multiple European companies. All the new products and systems directly and indirectly improve the safety, environmental friendliness and competitiveness of European maritime transport – in precise alignment with the FLAGSHIP programme’s objectives. Mr Emanuele Grimaldi, CEO of the Grimaldi Group, commented…

European Funding Enhance INS NACOS

Research and development undertaken as part of FLAGSHIP, a part EU-funded maritime transport project, is being incorporated in to the newest version of SAM Electronics’ enhanced navigation product, the NACOS Platinum series. The success of NACOS is based on the unique concept to functionally integrate radar operation, ECDIS and also automation - a key achievement supported by the FLAGSHIP programme. This integration provides enhanced support to the Officer on watch, whose main tasks are navigation, collision avoidance and control of the vessel´s safe track.

FLAGSHIP-Bridge Support Delivers Enhanced Navigation Tools

FLAGSHIP, the pan-European maritime transport project part funded by the EU, has improved Integrated Bridge Systems with advanced functions for further integration of nautical information. Called FLAGSHIP-Bridge Support these functions provide the officer of the watch with improved navigation information. They integrate NAVTEX messages, radar and AIS targets into a single coherent display, speeding up hazard analysis, improving tracking accuracy and reducing the load on the Duty Officer.

European Funding Enables MJC²

Research and development undertaken as part of FLAGSHIP, a part EU-funded maritime transport project is set to directly benefit logistics firms. Powerful vehicle routing and scheduling software called FAST which was developed by MJC², the leading provider of real-time logistics scheduling software, is to be made available to UK SMEs absolutely free of charge. The software was created as a result of MJC²â€™s work to reduce congestion at container terminals during its involvement with the FLAGSHIP-RTS sub-project.

FLAGSHIP-iCAS: Optimum Situation-Awareness In An Emergency

Courtesy of Kongsberg 5

FLAGSHIP, the Pan-European maritime transport project part funded by the EU, has successfully developed software that enables comprehensive suppression of audible warnings in order to avoid large cascades of alarms on the bridge and in the engine room. Called iCAS (intelligent Central Alarm System),  the system is designed to provide a precise overview of the situation on board as it develops while freeing up staff to address the situation and follow the vessel’s routines without disturbance.

KONGSBERG System Suppresses Superfluous Alarms

KONGSBERG iCAS - Intelligent Central Alarm System designed to provide precise overview of the situation as it develops while freeing up staff to address the situation and follow the vessel's routines without disturbance.

The Flagship maritime transport project has developed software that enables comprehensive suppression of audible warnings in order to avoid large cascades of alarms on the bridge and in the engine room. Known as iCAS (intelligent central alarm system), the system is designed to provide a precise overview of the situation on board as it develops while freeing up staff to address the situation. This element of the pan-European Flagship maritime transport project included both a…

FLAGSHIP-ISEMS Delivers Integrated Ship To Shore Incident Response

FLAGSHIP, the pan-European maritime transport project part funded by the EU, has developed an integrated, ship to shore system, for the control and monitoring of passenger safety functions on board ship utilising both fixed and mobile assets. Called FLAGSHIP-ISEMS (Integrated Safety and Emergency Management System), the system enhances the onboard ability to handle emergencies while also making full use of real-time communication between the ship and onshore facilities. Both parties have a full overview of the actual situation and can exchange requests, advice and instructions in real time.

FLAGSHIP, the Pan-European maritime transport project part funded by the EU, has successfully developed software that can forecast the condition of a ship’s hull over time to help improve the efficacy of surveys and reduce the amount of time a ship is out of service. FLAGSHIP-HCA (Hull Condition Assessment) is designed to accurately predict the condition of a vessel’s structure, coating and components, enabling ship owners and operators to schedule maintenance in a more efficient manner and thereby reduce maintenance costs while improving safety at sea.

Flagship, a part EU-funded maritime transport project, has successfully implemented the first real-time optimization system targeting congestion in container terminals. The system, known as Flagship-RTS was trialed at the Port of Valencia and plans transport resources, container repositioning movements and inventory levels simultaneously, using a real time scheduling model. This allows the terminal operation to be re-optimized dynamically throughout the day enabling both air pollution and congestion to be significantly reduced…
