Lake Constance Ferry to Test MTU Gas Engine
From 2019, Rolls-Royce Power Systems and the City of Constance public utility are to begin testing the marine propulsion technology of the future on Lake Constance. This takes the form of a gas engine carrying the MTU brand. The public utility's new car ferry is to be equipped with twin eight-cylinder Series 4000 gas engines from MTU, each delivering 746 kW. This makes it the first inland waterway passenger vessel in Europe to be propelled by straightforward high-speed gas engines. The fuel will be liquefied natural gas.
Rotterdam Integrates Safety Research with LNG Training Facility
The Dutch company Falck Risc is becoming the number one expert on LNG safety in Europe. Together with the Unified Fire Department, Falck Risc will draw up guidelines and recommendations for emergency response services in dealing with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This study is part of the LNG Masterplan Rhine-Main Danube and will be ready at the end of this year. As coordinator for the Rhine Corridor in this European project, Port of Rotterdam Authority is in charge of this research project by Falck Risc. Falck Risc and the United Fire Department won the tender for a LNG safety study wich was commissioned by the European Union (TEN-T) as an important part of the LNG Masterplan. These two organizations were chosen because of their elaborate expertise on emergency repression.
STG Ship Efficiency International Conference
Scheduled for September 23-24, 2013 in Hamburg, the fourth STG Ship Efficiency conference will focus on one of the key issues for future shipping. The German Society for Maritime Technology, STG, launched this series of conferences to provide a platform for maritime leaders to exchange interdisciplinary ideas and expertise on questions related to ship efficiency. Agreement Promotes LNG Carrier Construction
On June 21, 2013 under the auspices of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum a number of agreements were signed between Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T), Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation and ĐĐĐ Sovcomflot (SCF) to promote Russian content in LNG carriers construction projects. To ensure LNG shipping by sea from the Gazprom Group projects Vladivostok LNG and Sakhalin-2, provision will be made for possible construction during 2017-2021 of up to 13 highly sophisticated LNG carriersâŚ
Successful Launch Ceremony for Neptune
The launch ceremony for the NEPTUNE took place on 23 September 2011 at the IHC Merwede shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands. The self-elevating heavy-lift jack-up vessel is being built by IHC Merwede for GeoSea NV, the offshore marine construction specialist company within the DEME Group, based in Belgium. The contract for the detailed design, construction and delivery of the vessel was signed between GeoSea and IHC Merwede on 16 September 2010 and the keel was laid on 25 March 2011.
