Six giants in the global maritime industry have joined forces to address diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) issues.The Maritime Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Innovation Lab 2022, launched by Thome Group, Hafnia, Anglo American, RightShip, Rio Tinto, and Wilhelmsen, is an open competition for interested participants (individuals, institutions, companies, students etc.) to submit their ideas on addressing DEI in the maritime industry.Shortlisted teams will participate in the innovation lab to hone their pitches in preparation for a âDragonâs Denâ session with industry leaders.
Transnet Appoints Ngqura Liquid Bulk Terminal Operator
The Port of Ngqura is poised to play a vital role in ensuring the security of South Africaâs fuel supply, while creating a new petroleum trading hub for Southern Africa in anticipation of the relocation of existing liquid bulk facilities from Port Elizabeth. This follows the conclusion of an agreement between Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and Oiltanking Grindrod Calulo (Pty) Ltd (OTGC)to plan, fund, construct, own, maintain and operate a new liquid bulk handling facility at the Port of Ngqura. Grand Bahama Shipyard Adds Four Executives
Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL), a Caribbean shipyard providing retrofit, refurbishment and revitalization to cruise and commercial vessels, has added four new positions to its executive team in 2016. Taking up the new executive positions are Ian Edward Ross, Don Keirce, Charles Nugent and Adrian Baboi. Ian Edward Ross joined GBSL July 2016 as VP of HSSEQ, bringing with him over 25 yearsâ practical experience delivering strategic and operational support to major organizations in the oil and gas, power generation and heavy construction and fabrication industries.

Thome: Self-Sufficient in Junior Officer Recruitment
THOME Group announced that it has become self-sufficient in recruiting junior officers thanks to its in-house cadet training program. Launched in 2005 under THOMEâs âHuman Elementâ initiative, the Thome Global Cadet Program has already trained in excess of 1,350 cadets from at least 12 countries in Asia, Europe and the Far East. Currently there are 650 cadets at various stages of training on the program with another 200 due to join soon as deck, engine, electrical or catering cadets.

Stork Technical Services won the âAssociate Memberâ prize at this yearâs IADC North Sea Chapter (NSC) Annual Safety Awards. The award recognises an Associate membersâ safety achievements over the past year which can include launching schemes to improve safety performance, technical or operational innovations which reduce risk or any notable safety achievements. The presentation, in front of more than 400 industry leaders and guests, was made by Jon L Richards, Chairman IADC North Sea Chapter, at the ceremony on 11 May at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
LR Wins Deal with Maersk Oil
Lloyd's Register (LR) won a contract to provide Maersk Oil with a comprehensive suite of risk-management services to support the offshore operatorâs commitment to meet global demand for energy in an efficient, safe and environmentally responsible manner. The agreement requires Lloydâs Register to support Maersk Oilâs global management of four key areas of operational risk -- hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA), accident and incident investigation, management of change and contractor management. âEnsuring consistent standards of risk management across a global network of high-value offshore assets is an increasingly complex task.
