Tidewater Names CFO, COO

U.S. offshore support vessel company Tidewater has announced the promotion of two key members of the company’s executive team, Sam R. Rubio and David E. Darling, to the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, respectively.Rubio has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, following his accomplishments serving as the Company’s Chief Accounting Officer and Controller since joining Tidewater following the combination with GulfMark Offshore, Inc. in 2018. Prior to joining Tidewater he served as GulfMark’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, after holding the position of Chief Accounting Officer for over 10 years.

Viega Names Samona as Head of HR

Industry veteran Terry Samona has been named Vice President of Human Resources at Viega LLC.Samona oversees human resources management and development at Viega’s operations in the U.S., including headquarters and a seminar center in Broomfield, Colo.; a manufacturing plant and distribution hub in McPherson, Kan.; three additional distribution centers in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania; and a seminar center in Nashua, N.H.Samona’s entire career has been in human resources. Prior to joining Viega, he was vice president of human resources at Hach Environmental.

Darling, Parker join Tidewater

Tidewater has strengthened its management team with the appointments of David Darling as VP and Chief Human Resources Officer and Mark Parker as Vice President, Corporate Taxation. Darling joins Tidewater with over 24 years of domestic and international human resources experience, most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Gulfmark Offshore, Inc., where he was the Human Resource Director since 2007. Prior to Gulfmark, he served in executive human resources roles with Rigdon Marine and a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. Darling has additional offshore vessel industry experience as a Vessel Master and Operations Manager.

OSMC Holds India Seafarers Conference

Oman Ship Management Company (OSMC) has staged a conference in India enabling seafarers to share best practices and expand industry knowledge.It comes as OSMC figures reveal growth in its managed fleet expanding from 27 to 38 in last two years, largely due to expansion in its chartering business. More than 100 delegates joined the Officer’s Conference at the JW Marriot in Juhu, Mumbai. The two-day event involved seafarers from OSMC fleet vessels, office staff, crewing agencies and industry experts such as from Shell, P&I Clubs and Lloyds Register.

Spectec Announces Contract with Gungen Maritime

SpecTec and Gungen Maritime and Trading A/S recently announced the signing of a contract for the migration of their AMOS BS system to the latest version of AMOS2 Enterprise Management. After a series of fruitful meetings, last June the two companies renewed their long term mutually beneficial collaboration through the agreement which will lead the Turkish Shipping Company to the acquisition of the latest product of the AMOS Suite for its offices in Ankara and Istanbul as well as onboard the Vessels of the fleet. The provision set into the contract will be then extended to the two newbuildings soon to be delivered. AIDA, Lissi Set Sail Together - Aprentices on Training Ship

AIDA Cruises announced the signing of a cooperation treaty with the training ship society "Großherzogin Elisabeth e.V." With this cooperation, the apprenticeship at AIDA will offer even more on-the-job experience. Young academics and mechatronics will absolve a practical course lasting several weeks on board the tall ship Lissi, short for Großherzogin Elisabeth. "We have made the experience, that our students and apprentices know very little about nautical basics", says Tino Hensel, Director Human Resources Management Fleet at AIDA Cruises.

Crowley Scholarships to Business Students

Crowley continues to recognize exemplary students across the U.S., with Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships. This month, Steven Hoag, a freshman, and Tirhase Haddis, a sophomore, who are both business majors at the University of Washington, were each awarded $5,000 scholarships based on their academic records and financial need. Hoag has a cumulative grade point average of 3.58 and has made the University of Washington's Deans List. He is an active member of the fraternity Alpha Sigma Phi and in his free time enjoys weightlifting, rugby, current events and history. Haddisis studying business with a concentration in marketing and human resources management.

New MarineCam System, Live Video Feed

With the introduction of the M2sat MarineCam shipping companies can use live video streams and still images for commercial and operational efficiency. Hub Urlings, general manager of M2sat said, “The first applications we see running over the MarineCam system are purely commercial. One shipping company uses the MarineCam for corporate promotions and sends still images from its ship directly to the companies` homepage on the Internet. A special cargo shipping company uses the system to provide their customers direct access to the MarineCams on board of their ships to follow and watch their special cargo transport. The transportation of special cargo always brings a lot of uncertainty with the customer and project participants waiting for the delivery of these often unique goods.

Baker Hughes Profits Surge 456%

Driven by decade-high oil prices, industry leader Baker Hughes Incorporated reported operating profit after tax from continuing operations for the third quarter of 2000, excluding non-operational items, was $70.6 million, up 456% compared with $12.7 million for the third quarter of 1999, and up 72% compared with $41 million for the second quarter of 2000. Net income for the third quarter of 2000 was $66.7 million compared to $13.2 million for the third quarter of 1999. Results for the third quarter of 2000 include the impact of losses, net of tax, totaling $3.9 million related to the company's holdings of Varco International, Inc. stock and the sale of the Norward product line of Baker Atlas. Germanischer Lloyd Reorganizes Operations

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has restructured its business operations, dividing its two main operating areas into maritime services and industrial services. In a press meeting in Hamburg on March 4, executive board members Dr. Of a total group turnover of $160.4 million in 2000, about 80 percent was provided by maritime services and 20 percent by industrial services. Maritime services, whose main operation is ship classification, is comprised of tightly-focused central services coupled to the decentralized field service. The organizational structure runs along the value-adding chain with only three divisions: classification and flagstate affairs, ship technology and advanced engineering and strategic research.
