Detyens Sees Uptick in International Repair Work

International vessels have been trading in the Port of Charleston, S.C. for centuries. While Charleston is the sixth largest container port in the U.S., it is also home to Detyens Shipyards, Inc (DSI). In the past several years, DSI has seen an increase in the number of dry dock inquiries and bookings from International vessel operators. “In the last two quarters, we’ve dry docked eight internationally owned and operated vessels,” explained Peter Browne, Vice President of Estimating.

WASSP Multibeam Sonar Aiding in Rena Salvage

A WASSP Multibeam Sonar is being used by hydrographic surveyors at the grounding of the 236m-cargo vessel MV Rena on the Astrolabe Reef off the coast of New Zealand, to locate lost containers. Marine electronics manufacturer WASSP Ltd, a world leader in multibeam sonar technology has provided one of their WASSP sonar systems for the salvage effort. Within 48 hours of the WASSP arriving in Tauranga, it had been used to identify 12 targets, 7 of which were submerged containers…

WASSP Appoints New General Manager

 Ian McDonald, WASSP General Manager.

WASSP Ltd has announced the expansion of the company’s senior management with the appointment of Ian McDonald as General Manager. The role is a newly created position and will see Mr McDonald overseeing WASSP’s international sales & marketing strategy for their multibeam sonar products. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Mr McDonald has vast experience in the marine and offshore sector and has worked with over 300 technology and life science companies and research institutions in the UK and around the world.
