Shipbuilding: Cadmatic and CONTACT Software Partner

Engineering and industrial software providers Cadmatic and CONTACT Software have partnered to bring the first shipbuilding-specific product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions to shipyards.Cadmatic, a ship design and information management solution provider for the marine industry, said it will utilize the CONTACT Elements platform and its apps to deliver a broader scope of shipbuilding-specific digitalization solutions.Cadmatic’s scope will cover the entire lifecycle of shipbuilding projects from design and engineering to prefabrication and production and even to maintenance and operation.

Adrian Tolson Launches 20|20 Marine Energy

A new consultancy established by well known industry veteran and leading marine energy expert Adrian Tolson, was launched Tuesday. A new consultancy, 20|20 Marine Energy, was launched to help companies create and implement strategies for purchasing and selling marine energy, as well as supporting the development of bunkering infrastructure. In a changing market of increasing risk and complexity, 20|20 works with ship owners, operators and financial institutions on the buy-side, fuel suppliers and traders on the sell-side, as well as ports, and local and national governments on developing infrastructure projects. The company also provides research and insight services. 20|20 has been established by Adrian Tolson, one of the industry’s leading marine energy experts.

Conquest to Use MirTac and StarIPS Software

Maritime consultancy firm MirTac announced that Conquest Offshore has purchased the Star software and related database and implementation services. Conquest Offshore will be implementing the maintenance, purchase and safety management software both in the office as well as onboard its fleet. The Star software will support Conquest Offshore with the management of maintenance planning, inspections, purchasing and spare parts, document control, safety and environmental procedures and onboard barge administration.

Tideworks TOS Chosen for New Caledonia Terminal

Terminal management and planning software solutions provider Tideworks Technology says that Koniambo Nickel SAS (KNS) in Koné, New Caledonia, has selected Tideworks to implement its terminal operating system (TOS) solutions for its new container operations. Established near the New Caledonia North Province county town of Koné, KNS is developing a world-class industrial complex that will help New Caledonia become one of the world's largest nickel producers. It is working to exploit a nickel deposit that is ranked one of the most important and of the best quality worldwide. The KNS project, which will go live in Q4 2013, includes deployment of Tideworks’ Spinnaker Planning Management System® and its Traffic Control™ equipment dispatch system.

Port of Stockton Selects Tideworks TOS

Tideworks Technology, Inc., a provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions, announced that California’s Port of Stockton will deploy Tideworks Technology’s terminal operating system (TOS) to manage its container-on-barge operation and improve overall operational efficiency. Port of Stockton’s implementation of Tideworks’ TOS is part of the M-580 Marine Highway, a federally funded project aimed at moving ocean shipping containers by barge instead of truck between Oakland and the Central Valley in California.

Columbia Container Terminal Orders Tideworks TOS

Tideworks Technology® announce that Barranquilla Container Terminal chooses its Terminal Operating System (TOS). Barranquilla Container Terminal is a joint venture between SSA International and Sociedad Portuaria del Norte (SNP). The new facility will be managed by Santa Marta International Terminal Company (SMITCO) and will initially have capacity for approximately 122,000 TEU annually. Barranquilla Container Terminal plans to expand the container yard to five hectares and increase capacity to 190,000 TEU during a second phase of development. The terminal will deploy Tideworks’ Mainsail Terminal Management System®, Forecast® by Tideworks and Spinnaker Planning Management System® to manage container operations.

Scaldis Chooses MirTac and Star

Antwerp-based Scaldis Salvage and Marine Contractors ordered the Star fleet management system and related implementation services with Dutch company MirTac. Scaldis, well-known for amongst others the heavy-lifting/floating crane vessel Rambiz, chose MirTac after a thorough selection process with multiple suppliers. Jules Schelkens, Superintendent, says: “we were looking for an easy-to-use but complete software solution to meet our requirements for Quality, Environment, Health, Maintenance, Document and Purchase Management.

Brazil Shipbuilding: Soaring to New Heights

The recent growth of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry, with the construction of more than 20 new shipyards and efforts to modernize older shipyards, has highlighted the need for more efficient ship design and construction methods. With the increased reliance on production line automation, ship design software has become even more important. Maritime Reporter and Engineering News spoke with Mr. Bruno França,CEO of  Brazilian IT company Sincronia and ShipConstructor representative in Brazil, about the relevance of CAD based ship design software in the new Brazilian shipbuilding industry. Technip, BASF Sign Umbrella Agreement

Technip was awarded by BASF an Engineering Partner Umbrella Service Contract for chemical and petrochemical projects. Both companies are contemplating a long-term partnership which will provide BASF access to the extensive engineering resources of Technip for its capital investments notably in Europe, but also in other regions. The scope of work encompasses various kinds of services from studies, basic & detail engineering up to project implementation services. Technip’s operating center in Düsseldorf, Germany will coordinate the performance of the services under the umbrella agreement.

BC Ferries Sells Queen Of Victoria

The Queen of Victoria has been sold to a private operator in the Dominican Republic, BC Ferries' president and CEO Bob Lingwood announced. A total of six bids were received for the 38-year-old ferry and evaluated during the public bid process. "We've accepted an offer of $550,000 Canadian for the Queen of Victoria, which has become surplus to our needs," said Lingwood. R & G Importadora & Exportadora, the new owner, is expected to take possession of the vessel by the end of the year. The Queen of Victoria was built at the Victoria Machinery Depot in 1962 and provided ferry service on BC Ferries' Tsawwassen - Swartz Bay route until 1998. Since then, the vessel has been used for storage at the corporation's Deas Dock refit complex in Richmond.

L&T's Shipbuilding Installs PLM Solution

L&T will adopt integrated PLM solutions from Dassault Systemes for its heavy engineering division. The solutions will integrate L&T's stand-alone design automation and project management tools, increasing efficiency and savings potential across the division. DS's end-to-end PLM solution will be implemented by L&T's IT arm - L&T Infotech. L&T will apply DS's solutions to processes for the shipbuilding business segment. The deployment includes: CATIA, for designing the virtual product; ENOVIA VPLM, 3D collaborative virtual lifecycle management for highly complex products, resource and manufacturing processes; and ENOVIA MatrixOne, collaborative product development business processes for enterprises.
