ACL Selected to Serve on the IWUB
American Commercial Lines (ACL) has been selected to serve as a representative on the Inland Waterways Users Board (IWUB), an advisory board established to monitor the Inland Waterways Trust Fund (Fund) and make recommendations to the Army Corps of Engineers and to Congress on investment priorities using resources from the Fund. Comprised of representatives of the barge transportation industry and the customers it serves, the IWUB provides input to help identify and prioritize investment in inland navigation infrastructure.

WCI Endorses American Waterworks Act
New Waterways/Ports funding proposal will create jobs, relieve traffic congestion, increase exports. At its Board of Directors meeting held yesterday in Houston, Waterways Council, Inc.’s Board of Directors unanimously endorsed the American Waterworks Act, proposed in late October by Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to modernize America’s inland waterways and ports. Increase revenue to Inland Waterways Trust Fund in a manner consistent with the agreement between the Inland Waterways Users and the U.S.
WCI Laments $800M Cost Overrun at Olmsted Lock & Dam
Waterways Council, Inc. (WCI) President/CEO Michael J. Toohey issued the following statement regarding the U.S. “Tucked away in the fine print of the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget, the cost over-run at Olmsted Lock and Dam is finally made public. Alerted in August 2011 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that there was a ‘significant’ change in the cost of the Olmsted project, the users - ho pay half of the costs of the projects and the overruns - repeatedly asked for clarification and have, until now, been rebuffed.
