The latest edition of Hackett's Global Port Tracker North Europe Trade Outlook predicts cargo volumes on the route may fall this year, with a decline of as much as 4% of total moves at ports in Northern Europe. It predicts declines in container volumes at European ports in the first half of 2016, with North Range ports projected to post a 5.2% year-on-year decrease. Meanwhile, the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) noted that for January to November 2015, the year-on-year growth in major world ports was negative. The Amber Coast Logistics project brings together 19 project partners from Belarus, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, as well as another 25 associated partners. Founded with EU support, the project is designed to strengthen and exploit the existing potential of the transport and logistics sector in the southern and eastern Baltic Sea regions. 'Boundaries in the head are slower to disappear than frontiers between countries.' This was the realization of the recent mid-term event participants of the EU logistics project Amber Coast Logistics (ACL), held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The European Commission (EC) issued the final report on The Application of Competition Rules to Liner Shipping . The report concludes that repealing the EU block exemption for liner shipping would lead to moderate price declines and would have a positive impact on service reliability. The report does recommend, though, that the liner companies be allowed to engage in limited information exchange, but not as extensive as the liner companies have proposed. According to the EC Press Release accompanying the report, the review process will culminate with a Commission proposal to the EU’s Council of Ministers to repeal the Block Exemption Regulation by the end of the year.
