Yilport Makes a Bid for Taranto Container Terminal

Yilport Holding has submitted its offer for Taranto Container Terminal concession in Italy. Ionian Sea Port Authority (AdSP), the managing institution of Port of Taranto has officially received the request of Yilport Holding to operate the entire set of multi-purpose port facilities in the Port of Taranto. These terminals in Southern Italy handle container traffic, bulk cargo and serve ro-ro traffic. Well located as a relay hub for the Mediterranean Sea, the terminals are integrated to intermodal networks, connecting Southern Italy to Northern Italy and finally to the center of Europe. DFDS Completes Acquisition of U.N. Ro-Ro

Danish shipping and logistics group DFDS has completed the acquisition of Turkey’s largest operator of Ro-Ro freight ships and will be a major player in the strong and continuously growing trade between the EU and Turkey. In April, DFDS signed an agreement with the owners of  U.N. Ro-Ro to acquire the shares in the company, said a press release from the company. “All relevant authorities have now approved the transaction and I am very pleased to announce that on 7 June we completed the deal. U.S. Maritime Strategy: a Time for New Beginnings

The imperative for a holistic United States maritime strategy has never been greater. This is not news to many of you, but the call must be raised more persistently, more vocally and by many more of us, in order to drive action beyond rhetoric. The National Strategy for the Marine Transportation System was published in July 2008 by the previous administration. We are now in the second iteration of leadership changes at the Department of Transportation and Maritime Administration since the strategy was issued. Richard Steinke Receives 2011 Connie Award

More than 200 turn out to for Port of Long Beach Executive Director Honored by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute. The Connie Award was presented by the Containerization and Intermodal Institute (CII) to Richard D. Steinke, who will retire this month as executive director of the Port of Long Beach. Mr. Steinke was honored for his leadership role in developing the Port into one of the world's largest container harbors. More than 200 people attended the industry-wide dinner event held on September 21, at the Renaissance Hotel.

MOL N America HQ Relocation

MOL (America) Inc.’s North America Headquarters, which includes the Trade Management staff, announced that it has decided to relocate its Concord Headquarters to Lombard, IL. Noboru Kitazawa, President of MOL (America) Inc, said, ”The consolidation will allow for a greater synergy among the interactions between Trade Management and the Product Management Team (PMT) which is already located in Lombard.  This will improve our ability to optimize vessel and intermodal networks to enhance revenue and cost management, as well as broaden our employees’ career opportunities.” The relocation of staff into their current location in Lombard is scheduled for early August 2009.
