Newbuilding Bulker under Construction Will Be 1st Ship to Use Silicon Anti-fouling Paint

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced the first use of a new silicon-based anti-fouling paint for a 38,000-class bulker now under construction at the Minaminippon Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Shitanoe Works (Usuki-shi, Oita Prefecture). When completed, the new vessel will sail under a long-term charter with Doun Kisen Co., Ltd. (Namikata-cho, Ehime Prefecture). This new fluoropolymer foul release (*1) coating, called “Intersleek900,” was developed by International Paint Ltd.

Surging Commodity Prices Drive up Coating Costs

SEAaT Welcomes Associate Member International Paint

SEAaT (Shipping Emissions Abatement and Trading), the industry association dedicated to shipping emissions abatement and trading, announced that International Paint Ltd. has joined them as an associate member. International Paint is a world leader in marine coatings and has developed systems designed to reduce fuel consumption and thereby emissions from shipping. It is technologies such as these that will assist the maritime industry with reducing its environmental footprint. SEAaT and its members are united in calling for a reduction in emissions from shipping using technological as well as operational methods, facilitated by an emissions trading scheme.

K LINE and Intersleek 900 in New 100 Ship Milestone

International Paint Ltd. announced the completion of the 100th ship coated with the fluoropolymer based, patented foul release product Intersleek 900. Working in close cooperation with K LINE, the Japanese headquartered global shipping and logistics company, the 1998 built, 77,302 dwt Type 77 thermal coal carrier, the Corona Emblem has been completed at Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, China.

Carnival Uses Intersleek 900

International Paint completed a hull coating project on Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Victory. The seven-year-old Italian-built vessel, one of a fleet of 23 passenger liners, was coated with Intersleek 900 during a recent drydocking in the Grand Bahamas Shipyard in Freeport, Grand Bahama, in late 2007. Carnival Valor is was due to be coated with Intersleek 900 in early 2008. Intersleek 900 was chosen following a long evaluation of the Intersleek 700 foul release system by Carnival Cruise Lines.

Tanker Coated with Intersleek 900

International Paint Ltd. announced the completion of coating work on one of the world’s largest crude oil carriers, the 442,500 dwt V-Plus TI Africa. Owned and operated by Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (OSG), the 2002 Korean built vessel, one of four sister ships, recently drydocked in Dubai. T The decision to use the unique patented, Intersleek 900 fluoropolymer foul release coating was based on experience with Intersleek 700 silicone based products on three OSG owned VLCC’s. Introduced in February 2007, Intersleek 900 is smooth with low levels of average hull roughness, excellent foul release capabilities and good resistance to mechanical damage.
