Kongsberg, Robert Allan Drive the Future of Marine Firefighting

The first vessel in the series will be the 20 meter RALamander 2000, featuring FiFi1 capability, pumping capacity of 2400 m3/hour and with optional foam capabilities. Vancouver based naval architects and marine engineers Robert Allan Ltd., and international marine technology specialist Kongsberg Maritime are collaborating on the development of a radically new remotely-operated fireboat that will allow first responders to attack dangerous port fires more aggressively and safer than ever before. Like other autonomous efforts underway on the waterfront, this concept tackles and solves the so-called “3D’s” – dull, dirty and dangerous – of workboat drudgery.

AMO Responds to Cruise Line Industry Criticisms

American Maritime Officers Association (AMO) president follows up on his recent appearance on FOX News Channel. The AMO president says his April 15 live appearance on FOX News Channel's segment, "Remembering Titanic 101 years Ago Today," which highlighted concerns about the rising tide of marine mishaps, has drawn undue criticism from the cruise ship industry's lobbying group, yet, has ignited overwhelming positive public and professional support of putting highly-trained AMO-member U.S. merchant mariners in command of more passenger vacation vessels. A few days after American Maritime Officers President Tom Bethel appeared on "FOX & Friends," the Cruise Lines International Association issued a news release in the form of an open letter from CEO Christine Duffy to Mr. Bethel.

Toolkit for Security Plan

Together with the Ministry of Transport, RMPM has developed a Port Facility Security Toolkit. This intelligent software program will be made available free of charge via a secure internet link to 134 companies from the Rotterdam port and industrial complex that have to comply with the ISPS code. The program comprises a detailed questionnaire based on eleven themes, such as 'terminal access' and 'cargo handling'. By filling in the questions, the terminal carries out a risk assessment. The assessment shows what measures need to be taken (action plan) to arrive at a security plan that can be presented to the relevant authority for approval. In other words, the tool automatically creates the security plan. Source: Rotterdam Briefs
