Jay M. Cohen, Rear Admiral USN (ret), Joins Halo Board
Paul C. Jensen, CEO of Halo Maritime Defense Systems (HMDS),announced the addition of the Honorable Jay M. Cohen, Rear Admiral USN (ret), as Chairman of the Board. Admiral Cohen is a native of New York. He was commissioned in 1968 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy. He holds a joint Ocean Engineering degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Master of Science in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture from MIT. His early Navy assignments included service on conventional and nuclear submarines.

ASNE to Hold Conference
The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) is holding its annual exhibition, conference and meeting on April 30-May 1 in Arlington, Va. ASNE Day 2001 kicks off April 30 with a plenary session. Keynote speaker is RADM Jay M. Cohen, USN, Chief of Naval Research. His address will focus on ASNE Day's theme, "Technology Insertion in the 21st Century Fleet." ONR to Christen Advanced Electric Ship Demonstrator
The Advanced Electric Ship Demonstrator (AESD), Sea Jet, funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), is a 133-ft. vessel located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, Acoustic Research Detachment in Bayview, Idaho. Sea Jet will operate on Lake Pend Oreille, where it will be used for test and demonstration of various technologies. Among the first technologies tested will be an underwater discharge waterjet from Rolls-Royce Naval Marine, Inc., called AWJ-21, a propulsion concept with the goals of providing increased propulsive effiency, reduced acoustic signature, and improved maneuverability over previous Destroyer Class combatants.
