U.S. Coast Guard to Host Public Meeting

Media are invited to attend the public meeting on the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Reader Requirements Notice of Proposed Rulemaking April 18, 2013. WHO: Personnel from the Office of Port and Facilities Compliance, U.S. WHEN: April 18, 2013, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. WHAT: This public meeting is to receive comments on th NPRM published in the Federal Register March 22, 2013, under the title "Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) - Reader Requirements." Coast Guard personnel also will accept written comments and related materials at these meetings. The NPRM can be found at www.regulations.gov, docket number: USCG-2007-28915. US Coast Guard Schedule TWIC Public Meetings

The U.S. Coast Guard public meetings concern the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) proposal. The meetings are scheduled in accordance with the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Reader Requirements Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. The Coast Guard proposes to require owners and operators of certain vessels and facilities regulated by the Coast Guard to use electronic readers designed to work with the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as an access control measure. This NPRM also proposes additional requirements associated with electronic TWIC readers, including recordkeeping requirements for those owners and operators required to use an electronic TWIC reader, and security plan amendments to incorporate TWIC requirements.
