Testing FloScan Stainless Steel Flowmeters
FloScan’s new ABS-certified stainless steel flowmeters were tested on the F/V North American powered by a CAT 399 1125hp main engine. The North American is 110’ Marco-built crab boat once featured in the popular Deadliest Catch TV Series. Erling Skaar, owner of the North American, was onboard and had this to say about the new stainless steel flowmeters, “We ran tests at various RPM rates and vessel speeds on Puget Sound and our FloScan meters registered 118.0 gallons consumed. We compared it with our sight level gauge which measured in at 117.5 gallons consumed.
Remote Monitoring: The Bottom Line for Fleet Optimization
By any yardstick, remote monitoring is fleet optimization in the new millennium. You’re all over it: optimizing your fleet. But, what does that mean? For some operators, it means making sure their mix of vessels meets the needs of their customers and the prevailing winds of the economy. For others, it entails reading the tea leaves just right when it comes to deciding on time charters or dipping one’s toes into the spot markets. Still others focus on the closely linked Holy Grail of reduced bunker consumption and minimal stack emissions.
