Humphreys to Lead LR's Maritime Business in the Americas

U.K.-based classification society Lloyd's Register (LR) has appointed Kevin Humphreys as its new Marine and Offshore President for the Americas. Humphreys, who has more than 30 years of maritime and government experience in commercial and operational roles, joins from Wärtsilä where he was General Manager for Market Innovation and Global Merchant Segment Shipping Sales.Succeeding John Hicks, who has taken up the role of LR Strategic Implementation Director, Humphreys has experience as an executive and manager in a variety of fields including private equity and venture capital backed start-ups…

Hicks takes the Helm at LR Americas

Lloyd’s Register (LR) announced that John Hicks is President of Americas Marine & Offshore.

Lloyd’s Register (LR) announced that John Hicks is President of Americas Marine & Offshore. Hicks returns to the U.S. after two years of leading LR’s Global Passenger Ship Center in Trieste, Italy as Global Passenger Ship Sector Manager and Italy’s Marine Manager. Previously based in the U.S., he was Business Development Manager for the Americas as well as LR’s Applied Technology Group (ATG).One of the key priorities for John in his new role is continued focus on LR’s expansion of its Digital Innovation services.

LR to Class Unique Energy Efficient Ferry

Large ferry to trade between the Dutch islands of Texel and Den Helder will have an advanced energy management system – operating principally on gas but also with batteries, solar auxiliary power and the capability to run solely on diesel. New Hospital Ship to be Classed by LR

Lloyd’s Register (LR) says it is honored to be the classification society of choice for Mercy Ships latest endeavour, a new 36,600 GRT hospital ship scheduled for completion in 2017, and to be named 'Atlantic Mercy'. LR explain that the hospital ship will be designed by the Finnish firm Deltamarin and the vessel will be built at CSIC group’s Tianjin Xingang Shipyard in China. Stena RoRo will manage the actual project construction under the leadership of Per Westling, Managing Director.

Classification Society's Key Role in 'Viking Grace' Success

The world’s most environmentally friendly large passenger ship, 'Viking Grace', delivered by STX Finland, & maiden voyage tickets a sell-out. Apart from its unique green credentials, the vessel’s two standout features are its LNG-powered Wartsila engines and its safe return to port compliance technology. Such was the vessel’s much anticipated arrival that tickets for its maiden voyage from Turku to Stockholm were sold out months in advance. Interestingly, Viking Grace, with its almost emission-free performance, will be ideally suited to the sensitive and delicate waters of the Baltic Sea.

Lloyd’s Register Americas, Inc. has strengthened its marine business organization to enhance the support it provides to clients throughout North and South America. With approximately 200 employees and a growing presence in the Americas, the strategically aligned management structure will help Lloyd’s Register sharpen its focus on client relationships and better facilitate the services it provides. Tim Protheroe has been appointed Senior Vice President - Americas Marine Business. He will have full executive responsibility for marine activities in the Americas and for implementing Lloyd’s Register’s global marine strategies in the region.
