PSV Retrofitted for Hybrid Operation

‘Recycled-based’ Dyneema: Lankhorst Supplies Heerema Heavy Lift Slings

For the first time in the heavy lift industry, Lankhorst Ropes is supplying Heerema Marine Contractors with LankoForce HL slings manufactured with Dyneema SK78 fiber produced using post-consumer plastic waste as a feedstock. Maryland Port Administration, Port of Baltimore Joins CDMCS

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA), Port of Baltimore, officially joined the Council for Dredging and Marine Construction Safety (CDMCS), a national unified safety voice for the dredging and marine construction industry.The Port of Baltimore is one of the busiest seaports in the United States, handling every type of cargo at its public and private terminals. Currently, Baltimore is in the execution phase of more than $200 million in marine construction, dredging and infrastructure upgrades at Seagirt, Dundalk and Locust Point Marine Terminals.

Golar LNG Teams Up with Schlumberger

Golar LNG has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Schlumberger to co-operate on the global development of greenfield, brownfield and stranded gas reserves. Under the Memorandum, Golar and Schlumberger have agreed to jointly market gas monetization solutions to owners, investors and governments. Golar will contribute the Floating LNG assets and technology while Schlumberger, via its special project management division, will provide upstream development knowledge, resources and capital. The intention of this integrated offer is to gain access to a wide range of uneconomic gas reserves by delivering low-cost LNG production solutions.

IMUA Honors Three at 83rd Annual Meeting

Grace D. Thomas, Senior Vice President at Great American Insurance Company and a former Chairperson of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA), was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the association’s Annual Meeting held mid-May. Ms. Thomas was one of three individuals recognized by the IMUA. The others included Arthur L. Flitner, CPCU, Senior Director of Knowledge Resources at The Institutes – Excellence in Education; and Julie A. Saunders, Inland Marine Business Unit Audit Lead, Travelers – 2012 Outstanding Committee Person.

Safety experts both in and out of the maritime industry have for years been urging companies to restructure their organizational charts and erase the traditional division between Safety and Operations Departments in favor of disseminating safety responsibilities throughout operational divisions. This internal merger is often sold as an effective strategy for improving employee communications, fostering greater safety leadership throughout a company, and reducing the rate of injuries, as well as the high costs that come with them.
