IMO and Korea Agree to Boost SMART-C Program

The IMO and the Republic of Korea have signed a suite of agreements to formally establish and boost the IMO-Republic of Korea Sustainable Maritime Transport Cooperation (SMART-C) program.The goal of the KRW 25.5 billion (approximately $20 million) SMART-C program is to promote sustainable maritime transport systems and a sustainable marine environment by building knowledge and developing technical capacity in developing countries via long-term thematic projects.This Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding will ensure long-term programming of several technical cooperation projects.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Wins LCO2 Carrier Order

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has signed a contract to build two 22,000 cubic meter liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers worth KRW 179 billion ($142 million) for the Capital Maritime Group of Greece.The vessels will be 159.9 meters long, 27.4 meters wide and 17.8 meters high. As well as LCO2, they will be designed to transport various liquefied gas cargoes such as LPG and ammonia. SHI Receives Order for 16 Methanol-Powered Ships

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed a shipbuilding contract for 16 16,000 TEU methanol-powered container ships from a shipowner in Asia.Evergreen Shipping’s subsidiary Evergreen Marine (Asia) has placed an order with SHI for 16 vessels and a separate order for eight 16,000 TEU with Japan’s Nihon Shipyard.The order amount was KRW 3,959.3 billion ($3.1 billion), the largest ever for a single ship contract, says SHI. It has broken the previous record (12 LNG carriers, KRW 3.331 trillion) set by SHI in June of last year.

Samsung Heavy Nets Its 'Largest Ever Single Order'

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries has won what has been described as the company's largest-ever single order.The shipbuilder said Monday it had secured an order worth around KRW 2,8 trillion, which is approximately $USD 2,5 billion.The contract is for the supply of "blocks and equipment" and is with an unnamed European shipowner.In a brief statement on the Korea Exchange, Samsung said that the contract start date was November 20, 2020, and the end date December 31, 2025.

Samsung Heavy Scores $209M Order for Two LNG-Fueled VLCCs

South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries has signed a contract worth $209.2 million (KRW 253.6 billion) with a Bermudan ship owner to build two LNG-fueled VLCCs, which will be delivered by April 2022.The Very Large Crude Carriers will be equipped with S-Fugas, an LNG fueling system independently developed by SHI, that will see the vessels will comply with IMO 2020 which took effect early this year and reduce the emission of SOx by 99%, NOx by 85% and carbon dioxide by 25% compared to diesel fuel.The VLCC's will be equipped with SHI's Energy Saving Devices (ESDs)…

KSS Line Orders 5th VLGC at HHI

South Korean shipping company KSS Line placed an order for the construction of a new class 84,000 cbm Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) at compatriot Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).According to a statement from the marine transportation business company, this is the fifth VLGC order at the yard. All five VLGCs are scheduled for delivery in 2021."In 2021, when five new VLGCs, including the new vessels, are delivered, sales are expected to exceed KRW 300 billion and continue to grow," it said.The fifth VLGC new vessel is scheduled to enter into a long-term transportation contract with BGN Group, a European-based energy company, for seven years from the third quarter of 2021.The new 84,000 CBM-level VLGC can navigate through both the new and old Panama Canal.

DSME WIns Order for Five Mega Ships

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has secured an order for five new container ships set for delivery next year. SHI Wins Two LNGCs Orders from MISC

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced that it had secured orders for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers from MISC Berhad (MISC), a global provider of energy related maritime solutions and services.The 174,000 cbm LNG carriers were ordered under a KRW 485.3 billion (USD 406.2 million) deal, according to an SHI stock exchange announcement. HHI Bags Order for 2 Crude Carriers

SHI to Build 10-LNG-fuelled Tankers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) is to build 10 LNG-powered crude tanker vessels.The order was placed by an unnamed "Oceanian" customer. SHI Wins Order for 2 LNG Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received an order for the construction of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.The shipbuilder said in a stock exchange annoucement that it had secured a deal worth KRW 450bn ($381m) with a Bermuda-registered client.The newbuilds are planned to be delivered by the end of June 2022. With the addition of the latest order, SHI has seen its orders for LNG carriers reach 10 units. SHI revealed that its orderbook for 2019 now stands at eleven vessels, including one floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, worth USD 3 billion. According to Pulse news, SHI contracts  accomplishes 38 percent of its annual goal of $7.8 billion.

SHI Wins $190mln Order for LNG Carrier

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) revealed today (May 3, 2019) that it receives an order for a LNG carrier worth about  KRW 222bn (US$190 million).SHI will deliver the vessel by March 2022, the company said in a stock exchange announcement.SHI's new order total for 2019 now stands at 8 LNGC, 1 FPSO and 2.6 billion USD. For the year, the shipyard aims to bag $7.8 billion worth of deals.According to Yonhap, Samsung has clinched deals to build eight out of 16 LNG carrier orders placed around the globe.Samsung Heavy secured $6 billion worth of new orders last year, lower than its initial target of $8.2 billion.

Samsung Wins $963mln FPSO Contract

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received an order for the construction of a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit on the condition that the client receives approval from its partner and government.The contract worth KRW 1.1 trillion (US$963 million) has been signed with an unnamed Asian shipowner, said a report in Yonhap. DSME Wins More LNG Carriers Order from Maran

South Korean container line Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has named its new very large crude carrier (VLCC) at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).The 300,000 dwt vessel was named the Universal Leader during the ceremony held at DSME’s Okpo shipyard in Geoje on January 29, 2019.About 100 distinguished guests attended the ceremony including C.K.
