An 89-year-old passenger ship, out of commission due to the coronavirus pandemic, was repurposed on Tuesday as a COVID-19 vaccination center for thousands of residents from cities on Lake Constance.The 500-passenger MS Thurgau normally carries tourists and commuters between German and Swiss cities on Europe’s third-largest lake. On October 13, 2020, Damen Shipyards Group and Winander Leisure Limited signed the Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance for the official handover of MV Swift, a vessel to be operated by Windermere Lake Cruises Limited. The project has been a unique one, with Damen building the vessel inland on location at Windermere in the Lake District National Park in the U.K.Over the past 40 years, Damen has delivered more than 1,000 of vessels via the Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC). DTC makes possible the building of Damen vessels, anywhere in the world, at non-Damen locations.

Personnel from the U. S. Coast Guard, Chautauqua County, Lakewood Fire Department, the State of New York, WCA Hospital and more than 2 dozen partner agencies are scheduled to hold a mass-rescue exercise on the ice of Chautauqua Lake in the vicinity of Lakewood Community Park (Duck Park) on Saturday Feb. 22, 2014, The exercise is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. and should last for approximately 4 hours. The exercise simulation involves a jet crashing into the lake after encountering severe icing upon takeoff from the Chautauqua County Airport. The jet, headed west crash- lands on the lake and breaks into several parts and is partially submerged in approximately 15 feet of water with 43 passengers aboard.

The Group provides engineering solutions for all types of waterfront and water-related infrastructure, helping clients plan, design and manage the construction of projects along Lake Erie and its watershed. Cencer is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ohio and Florida and has more than eight years of experience in marine engineering.

Tognum has agreed to the building of a public path running between its MTU plant in the Friedrichshafen district of Manzell and the shore of Lake Constance. A contract to that effect has been signed  by Joachim Coers, CEO of Tognum and managing director of MTU; Andreas Brand, Lord Mayor of Friedrichshafen; and Lothar Heissel, chief architect from the regional administrative authority (Präsidium) in Tübingen. With its signature, MTU Friedrichshafen allows Friedrichshafen City Council to build the path directly in front of the MTU Plant 2 site.

State of Oregon has amended its Territorial Sea Plan to allow for siting of marine renewable energy development projects in state waters. The amendment identifies four "Renewable Energy Suitability Study Areas" along the Oregon coast where initial development of wave energy will be encouraged and pose the least conflict with existing ocean uses and natural resources. The four areas are located off the coasts of Lakeside, Reedsport, Nestucca, and Camp Rilea, and total about 22 square miles or two percent of Oregon’s territorial sea.

Intergraph, a global provider of engineering and geospatial software, start construction of new headquarters in Madison, Ala. The new headquarters will be located on the current Intergraph campus and is projected to open in summer 2014. Believed to be the oldest ship still afloat in Africa, the 124.6 ft long motor ship Chauncy Maples is to be renovated as a floating clinic to bring primary health care to half a million of the world’s poorest people living around Lake Malawi. The necessary funds are now being raised by the Oxford-based Chauncy Maples Malawi Trust with considerable support from Thomas Miller, a London-based specialist insurance company, which has chosen to make the renovation of Chauncy Maples the focal point of its 125th anniversary celebrations.

Mike Moore, taking over as new head of the World Trade Organization, pledged on Wednesday that he would devote "all efforts" to help poor countries to benefit from freer global trade. He also called on the richer powers to play their part by throwing open their markets to goods from poorer regions. The former New Zealand prime minister said that addressing the plight of the poorest members had to be a key element of the agenda for the WTO's third Ministerial Conference at the end of this year. Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), an early donor to the Northwestern University Transportation Center's "Building for the Future" campaign, is joining other supporters in celebrating the dedication this month of the center's new 20,000-square-foot headquarters building. A conference room in the building will be named in honor of NOL, which gave $100,000 to the center's campaign. Approximately $75,000 went toward the building, while $25,000 was designated for research fellowships at the center. For several years, Singapore-based NOL has sent its staff members to executive seminars and courses at the center. NOL is currently a member of the center's Business Advisory Committee, and has contributed to the center's operating budget since 1992.
