ABS and CCS Discuss Energy Development in China
The growing importance of deepwater exploration and production developments offshore China led classification societies ABS and CCS (China Classification Society) to conduct a joint “Deepsea Developments in the China Offshore Industry” meeting on June 17. The meeting, which was held in Beijing, brought together leading offshore industry professionals to discuss a wide range of energy development issues. More than 100 representatives from the Chinese government, shipbuilders, designers, research institutes, energy corporations and universities attended. LR Asia, China Classification Sign Joint Venture
Lloyd’s Register Asia signed an agreement to establish a joint venture with China Classification Society (CCS). The exclusive agreement was signed by David Moorhouse, Executive Chairman of Lloyd’s Register, and Li Kejun, President of CCS. The joint venture, to be based in Beijing, will enable the rapid roll out of a number of key products and services to the benefit of the maritime industry in China. Lloyd’s Register Asia is keen to introduce more of its established products and services into China, while CCS has a large Chinese client base and wishes to widen its portfolio. The agreement will make it possible for both parties to introduce relevant products and services, in Chinese, in a much shorter time than would otherwise be the case.
RINA, China Class Team on Yard Quality
Italian classification society and certification group RINA and the China Classification Society (CCS) have joined forces to deliver quality management system expertise to small and medium-size Chinese shipyards which intend to build ships for international trade. The two class societies have set up a joint venture company, Yizhong Marine Technical Services, based in Shanghai. It will assist between five and ten yards in its first year. The yards, suitable for building ships up to 50,000 dwt, are those which currently build only to internal Chinese standards but which wish to enter the international shipbuilding market. Yizhong will train the management and help them build and run a complete quality management system capable of building ships to international classed standards.
