An LR 1300 with super lift equipment and an LR 1160 crawler crane will strengthen the fleet of Viking Cranes. The Tallinn-based company with branch offices throughout the Baltic States and Scandinavia has signed the contract at the occasion of the customer days of Liebherr Nenzing mid-April 2015. Both cranes will be delivered to the customer until the mid of June 2015. The 300-tonnes crawler crane LR 1300 will be delivered with super lift equipment and counterweight carrier. This machine is equipped with a main boom of 86 m and a luffing jib of 41 m. Its first field of operation is at the Estonian port of Paldiski, where it will be used for several heavy lifting tasks. Kongsberg GlobalSim has been awarded a contract with the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) of Montreal, Canada to supply several K-Sim Lift Training Simulators for heavy lift port equipment. The simulator system will include training modules for seven different types of heavy lift equipment, and will feature three different student-training stations to expand the training program in Montreal. “The simulator will be the first step of every training program, for each type of equipment we use in Montreal,” said Sebastien Lambert, MEA’s Training Coordinator.

Recommends Safe Practices to Prevent Falls. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) today issued recommendations for safety measures developed from the investigation of an offshore accident which resulted in a fatality. The recommendations are being distributed through a Safety Alert: the safety alert is one of the tools BSEE uses to inform the offshore oil and gas industry of the circumstances surrounding an incident or a near miss. The alert also contains recommendations that should help prevent the recurrence of such an incident on the Outer Continental Shelf.

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Resolve Marine Group Inc. and its  Resolve Salvage & Fire (Asia) Pte Ltd. subsidiary have announced that wreck removal operations at Kankesanthurai (KKS) Harbor in northern Sri Lanka have been completed. Retained by the Government of India/Shipping Corporation of India, and working on site in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Navy since June, 2011, Resolve crews undertook the mapping, removal and disposition of ten vessels, which were sunk during the LTTE conflict between 1994 and 2000. Jennings today announced that, in its first six months, the Port of Albany’s new container service has resulted in more than 325 containers passing through the Port, generating additional work for longshore labor, and successfully opening an exciting new chapter for business at the Port. “It has been a busy six months,” Mayor Jennings said. “Since April, over 325 containers have been handled at the Port, which is great news for our longshoremen, and promises a very bright future for Port of Albany. The new container cargo at the Port includes artificial Christmas trees, olive oil, tile, safety products and logs. In addition to this cargo, the Port of Albany continues to receive all of its traditional cargo including grain, molasses, heavy lift equipment and wood pulp.

The U.S. Coast Guard has concluded its search for five crewmen missing since their offshore supply vessel sank near Pilottown, La., Saturday, and is, as of Tuesday, February 24, overseeing recovery and salvage operations to safely remove the vessel from the Southwest Pass. The Coast Guard called off its search and rescue efforts at about 5 p.m. after a final search of the area failed to locate any survivors.
