Hapag-Lloyd Gets New Logo, New Name

The 125 years old German cruise operator, Hapag-Lloyd, has unveiled new branding, along with a modest name change, that will help promote the luxury cruise line to a global audience. Effective immediately, the old Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten name has been changed to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, in a bid to attract a worldwide audience, rather than just German speaking guests. 125 years after the first Hapag-Lloyd cruise to the Mediterranean from Hamburg aboard the steamer Augusta Victoria, the new branding will help continue the historic legacy of the German cruise line. “We are proud of our long-standing corporate history and we feel even today the innovation and spirit of discovery Albert Ballin joined.

TUI CEO Steps Aside from Charitiable Foundation Chair

Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the Management Board of the Germany-based travel and cruise ship firm TUI AG, has been appointed by the Group’s Executive Board to take over this mandate from Friedrich Joussen, who is CEO of TUI AG. (With Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten and TUI Cruises, TUI AG’s portfolio has two brands in its portfolia offering maritime holidays. It is also in a joint venture with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. which offers cruises for the German-speaking market aboard the cruise ship Mein Schiff 1). TUI explain that Ellerbeck is the company’s Management Board member in charge of Corporate & External Affairs, including Politics, International Relations, Group Communications, CR and Sustainable Development, the TUI Foundation and the Trademarks, Patents and Licenses Department.

MS EUROPA Sails into B+V Repair

The MS EUROPA 5-star-plus luxury cruise liner from the Hapag Lloyd Kreuzfahrten GmbH is expected to arrive at the dock of the Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH on 31 August 2004. Extensive modernisation will be carried out on the 198.6 metre long, 24 metre wide cruise liner by 14 September 2004. MS EUROPA Sails into B+V Repair

The MS EUROPA, a 5-star-plus luxury cruise liner of Hapag Lloyd Kreuzfahrten GmbH arrived in the morning of 31 August 2004 at dock 10 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH. After its stay at the shipyard, the MS EUROPA will be setting off restyled for a 19-day. The cruise will start from Hamburg to Norway, Iceland, Greenland and on to Montreal.

Blohm + Voss Repair Wins Business

Earlier this year, the Black Prince of the Fred. Olsen Cruises Line shipping company docked into Dock 10 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH. The cruise liner was originally constructed in such a way that it was able to be employed on the one hand as a passenger liner and cargo ship, and on the other as a passenger and car ferry. The Black Prince was converted into a pure passenger liner in 1986. A maximum of 451 passengers can go on a cruise in the 241 cabins of the Black Prince. The last full renovation took place in 1999. The 464.6 x 66.5 ft. (141.6 x 20.3 m) ship, with a draft of 21 ft. (6.4 m) is now receiving a new crankshaft on the port side at Blohm + Voss Repair. Moreover, some paint work has to be carried out in addition to retouch work on the engine plant.
