Fairbanks Morse Defense Acquires Samtan Engineering Corporation

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, has acquired single-source metalworking supplier Samtan Engineering Corporation based in Malden, Mass. Samtan’s metalworking services expand FMD’s portfolio with shearing, punching, forming, machining, fabrication and assembly capabilities.“Our acquisition of Samtan Engineering Corporation allows Fairbanks Morse Defense to continue delivering value far beyond the cost of our services through the seamless integration of metal-stamped products and machine shop services,” said FMD CEO George Whittier.

Great Lakes Towing Acquires Plotz Machine

The Great Lakes Towing Company announced it has purchased The Wm. Plotz Machine & Forge Company.The acquisition, which includes all Plotz Machine’s assets and real estate, increases the services provided by Great Lakes and allows the company to now offer marine and industrial machine shop services to all types of customers, including shipyard new construction and ship repair. U.S. Brig Niagara at Great Lakes Shipyard

The U.S. Brig Niagara, Erie, Pennsylvania’s Flagship, arrived at Great Lakes Shipyard for routine drydocking and repairs. The vessel was hauled out using the Marine Travelift, and the work on the vessel will be completed in approximately two weeks. This marks the first time Great Lakes Shipyard has hauled out a tall ship using their Travelift as well as the first time the US Brig Niagara  has been hauled out with a Travelift. Bollinger Builds

Lockport, La.-based Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. is humming with work from oil and gas companies and government agencies. Family-owned and operated, Bollinger has 10 shipyards -- nine in south Louisiana and one in Texas -- along with 28 drydocks and 3,000 employees in four administrative locations. Last month, we caught up with Ben Bordelon, Bollinger’s Executive Vice President of Repair, for his outlook on the firm and the Gulf of Mexico. Bordelon is the nephew of Boysie Bollinger, who has been at the helm as CEO since 1985.
