Mack Boring Promotes Ponnwitz to Lead New Sustainable Energy Division

Maine Selects Sears Island as Preferred Site for Floating Wind Port Facility

Mack Boring Announces the Passing of Ned McGovern III

Mack Boring & Parts Co., a supplier of engines and power products to industrial and marine markets, announced industry veteran Edward “Ned” McGovern III. Ned passed away on April 14, at the age of 77, following a seven-year battle with prostate cancer.In 1990, Ned became the third generation of McGovern leaders to become President of Mack Boring, and later Co-President with his brother Steve from 2003-2008. Ned, along with the McGovern family, transformed the company with the addition of products such as Yanmar, Isuzu and Scania.

Foss Maritime has reached a deal to bareboat charter the tug Earl W Redd from Tug Construction, LLC for use in the U.S. offshore wind industry.The Earl W Redd will sail from Portland, Ore. to Massachusetts later this month to begin work on Foss 's offshore wind projects, including Vineyard Wind, the first large-scale offshore wind installation in the U.S. "The Earl W Redd is a great addition to the Foss fleet and will allow our skilled mariners to safely accomplish complex projects," said Joel Whitman, President of Business Development Foss Offshore Wind.

Scania to Power Patriot's New CTV

Engine manufacturer Scania announced it has been selected by Patriot Offshore Maritime Services to power its new 27-meter aluminum crew transfer vessel (CTV), chartered by Vineyard Wind for support of the construction and management of its commercial offshore wind project. The CTV will be built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding in Somerset, Mass. for mid-2023 delivery. Based on an Incat Crowther catamaran design, it will be capable of carrying up to 24 technicians and personnel.

Volvo Penta has named Fredrik Högberg president of Volvo Penta North America, replacing Tony Kelleher who has served as acting president since December 2021.A new member of Volvo Penta's executive management group, Högberg will take up the position on May 15. Drilling wells more than three miles deep in the late 1960s was something that GHK Company and partner Lone Star Producing Company believed would product massive amounts of natural gas. The two companies that began this project discovered in 1974 that South of Burns Flat in Washita County their Bertha Rogers No. 1 rig would reach almost six miles deep, following a deep-sea fishing trip. Tourist Boat Operator Fined for Passenger Injury

A New Zealand passenger vessel operator and its director have been fined more than $93,000 after a 60-year-old passenger suffered a broken back on the company’s high-speed tourist excursion boat near Cape Brett, New Zealand. In October 2014, Raewyn Russell was seated in the front row as a passenger on the high-speed tourist excursions vessel Mack Attack, a catamaran capable of speeds of up to 100 km/hr. When the boat hit a large wave at speed and landed heavily, Russell was thrown forward and on landing back in her seat heard a crack in her back.

Scania: Propelling the Passenger Vessel Market

Scania advances into 2018 on the strength of prior year successes and new visibility in one of the North American marine industry’s hottest sectors. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the first two passenger vessels built by Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark for Entertainment Cruises’ Potomac Riverboat Company division were delivered to Washington, D.C. Both are now in service. The two 88’, 149-passenger high speed aluminum catamaran vessels – the Potomac Taxi I and Potomac Taxi II – departed Metal Shark’s Franklin, La. shipyard and eventually proceeded northward up the Atlantic Coast to Washington. How they got there is less important than what powered the delivery.
