The National Transportation Board said Thursday that a Mississippi River towing vessel’s pilot and its captain pushed its tow up against a riverbank too close to a railroad track, leading to a collision and train derailment near Galland, Iowa.Marine Investigation Report 22/22 details the NTSB’s investigation into the Nov. 13, 2021, collision between the towing vessel Baxter Southern and a BNSF coal train transiting the track along the shoreline of the Upper Mississippi River. The train struck a barge that was overhanging the railroad track.

Surgical masks and other items have been found washing up onto Australian beaches Tuesday after the Singapore-flagged APL England lost at least 40 containers overboard in heavy seas off the coast of Sydney.The medical supplies have been found on shores between Magenta Beach and The Entrance, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), which said the locations and contents are consistent with its debris drift models and items listed on the ship’s cargo manifest.

Ocean Network Express East Asia (ONE EA) has celebrated the maiden voyage of the second of a series of seven 14,000 TEU-class magenta containership of the company, ONE MINATO at Yantian International Container Terminals Limited (YICT).Sailed under the flag of Japan,  One Minato is a newly built 14,000 TEU-class containership which was delivered from Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima, Japan on 24 July 2018.At 365.94 metres length and 51.2 metres width, the vessel deployed on THE Alliance’s Asia to North America East Coast trade (EC4 service), made successful calls at ports of Kaohsiung and Hong Kong before calling at Yantian.She will continue her voyage to Cai Mep, Singapore via the Suez Canal to New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Charleston on the United States East Coast.

A naming ceremony was held Monday at Japan Marine United Corporation’s (JMU) Kure shipyard for the first newly built containership painted in Ocean Network Express' (ONE) corporate color.The new magenta box ship, named ONE Stork, is the 10th of 15 new 14,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) vessels ordered by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK). It will be chartered by Singapore-based ONE, which began operations on April 1 by integrating the container businesses of Japanese ocean carriers Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), Mitsui O.S.K.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced that the ONE Commitment, the company’s first magenta-color  containership with a carrying capacity of 8,560 TEU, successfully arrived at the Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT) on 24 May 2018. Operated on THE Alliance’s Asia to North America PN2 service, the ONE Commitment is painted with an unmissable magenta as its brand colour which reflects the energetic, innovative and confident perception to customers. ONE Commitment started her maiden voyage from Singapore on 15 May 2018 and has already called at Laem Chabang, Cai Mep and Kaohsiung before arriving at the Port of Yantian, China. She will continue her journey to Tacoma and Vancouver. When returning to Asia, she will call at Ports of Tokyo, Kobe, Kaohsiung and Singapore.

For three Japanese ocean carriers combining their shipping container business into ONE, the future is bright and it comes in magenta. The future arrives this April. Despite the grey clouds and rain that fell over the weekend in La Spezia, the YM Warmth making only her second call brought a splash of colour to the terminal when it discharged from Asia a brand new ONE container, showing off the bright new magenta livery.   The ship is deployed in THE Alliance’s MD2 service and is one of a series of 14,000 teu ships operated by Yang Ming Line of Taiwan.   Effective from April 1, ONE will become the new shipping line formed as a result of the merged container divisions of the big three Japanese lines, namely “K” Line, NYK and MOL.   The corporate color scheme adopted by the new company brightened up the day at Contship Italia’s La Spezia Container Terminal.

The Office of Coast Survey has announced that future editions of nautical charts of the Intracoastal Waterway will be updated to include an improved "magenta line" that has historically aided navigation down the East Coast and around the Gulf Coast. Additionally, Coast Survey will change the magenta line's function, from the perceived "recommended route" established more than a hundred years ago, to an advisory directional guide that helps prevent boaters from going astray in the maze of channels that comprise the route.
