Wärtsilä Acquires Guidance Marine

Wärtsilä has acquired Guidance Marine Limited, a technology leader within the marine industry for sensor solutions relating to dynamic positioning and other vessel control systems, such as collision avoidance and remote control operations. Wärtsilä said it is committed to providing technologies needed to enhance “intelligent” shipping, whereby digital solutions will improve the efficiency, safety and profit earning capabilities. According to Wärtsilä, the acquisition of Guidance Marine will enhance its capabilities in the areas essential for more intelligent vessel navigation such as situational awareness and near-field measurement.

Wärtsilä Launches SmartPredict

The technology group Wärtsilä launches its latest innovation SmartPredict at this year's Seatrade Cruise Global exhibition in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. from March 13 to 16. Developed by the company's dynamic positioning unit, SmartPredict is designed to provide safer and more efficient vessel operations by reducing the risks associated with maneuvering. The system displays the vessel's predicted future position and heading, and uses proven dynamic positioning (DP) analysis algorithms to evaluate forces affecting the vessel, thereby providing advanced motion prediction.

Wärtsilä Launches Updated Version of its Nacos Platinum Series

The Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum series of navigation, automation and control systems has been updated to include a number of new functions. The updated version will be introduced at the SMM conference and exhibition taking place in Hamburg, Germany from September 5 to 9. Among the most interesting of the new functions is Intelligent Route Planning, which takes into account weather and sea conditions to provide route and power optimisation and, therefore, notable fuel savings. Automated execution is also available. Other new features include scalable 'plug-in' software for various applications, seamless integration with third party applications, remote maintenance, a highly advanced and easy to learn interface, and highly advanced security against possible cyber attacks.

Wärtsilä Propulsion for Seabourn Cruise Vessels

Two new cruise vessels being built for USA based Seabourn Cruise Line will feature a broad assortment of Wärtsilä propulsion, electrical and automation solutions. The ships are to be built at the Fincantieri yard in Italy. The 'Seabourn Encore' is already under construction and the 'Seabourn Ovation' is scheduled to join the Seabourn fleet in 2018. The contracts with Wärtsilä for the vessels' navigation and automation systems were signed in December 2015. The engine orders were signed in late 2014 and in the third quarter of 2015. The comprehensive range of Wärtsilä navigation, automation and sensor systems to be installed on these vessels includes the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum and Wärtsilä Valmatic Platinum systems.

L-3 SAM Electronics to Supply Navigation System for Greek Luxury Yacht

L-3 SAM Electronics has been awarded a contract to provide its NACOS Platinum Automation Navigation Control System aboard Golden Yachts Ltd's O’Pari3. Built at Lamda Nafs Shipyard, Greece, O’Pari3 is a new 72-meter, 1,166-gross-ton luxury megayacht that will be available for chartering after its planned April 2015 delivery date. NACOS Platinum Systems for Two New Star Cruises Liners

L-3 Marine Systems International (L-3 MSI) has announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide its latest NACOS Platinum series aboard two new 150,000-gross-ton cruise ships for Star Cruises. SAM Electronics to Retrofit Bridge Systems for Scandlines

L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that via its Danish subsidiary, L-3 Lyngsø Marine, it was awarded a contract to retrofit navigation facilities aboard four double-ended passenger and freight ferries operated by the German-Danish ferry company, Scandlines. “We are extremely proud to have been selected to provide our advanced NACOS Platinum navigation system for one of Europe’s largest ferry organizations,” said Maik Stoevhase, managing director of L-3 SAM Electronics, ANC. The four ships being retrofitted are the M/F Deutschland, M/F Prins Richard, M/F Prinsesse Benedikte and M/F Schleswig-Holstein, which all operate the short-distance route between Puttgarden, Germany, and Rødby, Denmark.

L-3 SAM Electronics Promotes Managing Directors

L-3 Marine Systems International (L-3 MSI) announced today the promotion of Armin Groth and Maik Stoevhase to managing directors of its L-3 SAM Electronics business. As managing directors, Groth and Stoevhase report to Ulrich Weinreuter, president of L-3 MSI. Having worked in the maritime industry for more than 24 years, Groth joined L-3 SAM Electronics in 2006 as managing director of its STN Schiffselektrik subsidiary before he took over SAM’s Integrated Systems business in 2009.
