ABS Releases Chemical Tanker e-Learning Package
ABS, a provider of maritime classification services, launched Chem-eL, a specialized training package designed to support safety and competence in chemical tanker operations. Chem-eL is a sector-specific e-learning marine product developed in accordance with the requirements stated in the International Maritime Organization's International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers and the relevant IMO Model Course. Malaysian Maritime Academy Upgrades
Malaysian Maritime Academy (Alam) is aiming to be a regional training hub specializing in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petroleum tankers, Business Times reported. The academy, wholly-owned by shipping giant MISC Bhd, recently invested about $3 million to install the latest versions of a ship-handling stimulator, liquid cargo stimulator and engine stimulator. The country's premier seafarers' training academy had undergone a corporate transformation exercise as part of its vision to position Alam as a reputable maritime academy institution. The academy hopes to grow its international student intake to 10 percent this year. Currently, Alam has 215 students out of which about 5 percent are foreign students from Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Brunei and Kenya.
