Surge in Maritime Cyber Attacks Reported

Next Geosolutions Boosts Middle East Presence

Next Geosolutions is set to increase its international credentials in the Arabian Gulf, with a seven figure investment. The independent geoscience and engineering service provider has launched a new multi purpose-built operational facility in the Hamriyah Free Zone of Sharjah (UAE), and a supporting business development and marketing office in Dubai. PALFINGER Makes Takeover Bid for TTS

The takeover bid made by the PALFINGER Group for the Norwegian ship equipment supplier TTS Group ASA, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, was approved and published this morning by the Oslo Stock Exchange following a detailed review. PALFINGER aims to acquire 100 percent of the TTS shares. Apart from the necessary anti-trust approvals, the offer is also subject to the condition that at least 90 per cent of all the shares in TTS be offered to the PALFINGER Group (with PALFINGER having already secured acceptance of a total of approx. 66.3 per cent). The initial deadline for acceptance of the offer is 12 August 2016. The Board of Directors of TTS recommends that its shareholders accept PALFINGER’s offer.

Wärtsilä Acquires L-3 Marine Systems International

Wärtsilä Corporation is to acquire L-3 Marine Systems International from NYSE-listed L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. L-3 Marine Systems International (L-3 MSI) is a business sector within L-3’s Electronic Systems business segment primarily focused on the commercial ship industry. The transaction is valued at MEUR 285 (enterprise value), subject to customary adjustments including an estimated reduction of MEUR 60 for L-3 MSI employee pension-related liabilities to be assumed by Wärtsilä Corporation. Financing for the deal will be from existing cash resources and credit facilities. The acquisition is subject to clearance from the regulatory authorities. The acquisition is expected to be closed during the second quarter of 2015.

TE Connectivity Expands Sensors Offering with AST

TE Connectivity Ltd, a world leader in connectivity, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of American Sensor Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of pressure and position sensing solutions with 2013 revenues of approximately $20 million. Market Improving for German Equipment Suppliers

The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) reported a good order situation for German marine and offshore oil and gas equipment suppliers, but the upsurge in incoming orders is not making the sector euphoric. “The boom in world ship newbuilding orders in 2013 gave us strong order growth, particularly from China and Korea. Here our ongoing export commitment in the global market is paying off: Germany remains the leading country for marine equipment suppliers worldwide. At the same time, we registered above average growth in incoming orders in the offshore oil and gas area,” stated Dr. Alexander Nürnberg, Chairman of VDMA Marine and Offshore Equipment Industries, at the association’s press conference held in Hamburg on Wednesday.

Alfa Laval buys Frank Mohn for $2.17 bln

Swedish engineering group Alfa Laval said on Monday it had agreed to buy Norwegian marine and offshore pumping group Frank Mohn for 13 billion Norwegian crowns ($2.17 billion) in cash. Frank Mohn, headquartered in Bergen, Norway and with approximately 1,200 employees, posted 2013 sales of 3.4 billion crowns and had an order intake of 6.1 billion. "The acquisition, which strengthens Alfa Laval's fluid handling portfolio by adding a unique pumping technology, will further reinforce Alfa Laval`s position as a leading supplier to the marine and offshore oil & gas markets," Alfa Laval said in a statement. The Increasing Importance of Preventative Maintenance

The U.S. Coast Guard is adapting their compliance procedures to suit the recent IMO requirements. It is modifying their inspection requirements by implementing a USCG streamlined vessel inspection (SIP) scheme allowing vessel owner/operator inspections to replace certain regular inspections by the USCG, on the basis of an approved Maintenance Program. Likewise, Classification Societies (ABS, DNV and Lloyds) are accepting approved Preventive Maintenance Programs to replace special Continuous Machinery Surveys with only random inspections of such machinery. Additionally the format of the Preventive Maintenance Program is suitable to be used in conjunction with ISO 9000 certification.
