Wärtsilä Propulsion for First UK Dual-fuel Ships
he first ever UK domestic dual-fuelled new build vessels will feature fully integrated Wärtsilä propulsion machinery packages. Wärtsilä will also supply extended engineering and site support services. The two ships, both 102 metre long ro-ro passenger ferries, are being built for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) based in Port Glasgow, Scotland. The contracts with Wärtsilä were recorded in December 2015. Besides being the first dual-fuel vessels for CMAL, they are also the first ever dual-fuel ships to be built in the UK. These will be built by Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd. The yard is located on the River Clyde in Glasgow. GBP1mln Grant to Create 100 Jobs at Ferguson Shipyard
The last commercial shipyard on the Clyde, Scotland, has secured grant to help safeguard 125 jobs and create a further 100. Ferguson shipyard has been awarded a £1m grant to refurbish its Port Glasgow premises and help fund new jobs. Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd (FMEL) received the grant from Scottish Enterprise which will boost the number of full time staff from 150 to 250 at Port Glasgow. The Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) funding will contribute to Ferguson Marine's redevelopment of its premises and investment in new state of the art equipment. Last month, Ferguson was awarded a £97m Scottish government contract to build two new ferries. The firm was saved from administration last year by Jim McColl's Clyde Blowers Capital.
Dorian Completes Acquisition of Scorpio VLGC Fleet
Dorian LPG Ltd. announced that it has concluded its agreement with Scorpio Tankers Inc. to acquire its Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) newbuilding contracts, associated deposits of $83.1 million, and a cash contribution of $1.9 million in exchange for 39.9 million newly issued Dorian LPG shares representing 30% of the Company's pro-forma outstanding shares. Concurrent with the completion of the transaction between Dorian LPG and Scorpio Tankers, Dorian LPG has also closed its subscription for its private placement of 80,405,405 shares to Norwegian and international institutional investors at a price of NOK 18.50 which represents approximately $250 million in gross proceeds. The Company now has 213,579,150 shares issued and outstanding.
Kobelco Polyglycol Lubricant Receives Patent
Kobelco Eagle Marine Engineering Ltd. (KEMEL) announced that its polyglycol-based stern tube and CPP/thruster gear lubricants ST-77 and TH-100 have recently received a U.S. Patent. Qatargas Gains Two New LNG Vessels
Two new LNG vessels that will join the Qatargas fleet have been handed over to the owners’ consortium by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Ltd (DSME) at its ship building yard in the Geoje Island in South Korea. The vessels Al Ruwais and Al Safliya will now proceed with bunkering and leave South Korea in the next few days. The first cargo will be delivered to Japan using one of these vessels before the year end. Two more vessels are expected to be delivered from other South Korean yards this month. Qatargas Names its Q-flex Ships
Qatargas has named the first two Q-Flex LNG vessels - Al Ruwais and Al Safliya - at a ceremony held at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Ltd. (DSME) ship building yard in Geoje Island. The ceremony which was presided over by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy and Industry and Mr. Neil Duffin, President of ExxonMobil Development Co. officially named the two ships which are the first of 45 large LNG ships to be delivered for Qatar. The Al Ruwais and Al Safliya will be used to ship LNG produced in Qatargas 2, Train 4 to customers in Europe. They are the first of 14 ships that are being built in Korea to service Qatargas Trains 4 and 5.
