Louisiana based shipbuilding and repair group Bollinger Shipyards, LLC, announced it has promoted Matthew Kuehne to General Manager of Bollinger Quick Repair.Bollinger’s CEO and President, Ben Bordelon, said, “[Kuehne] will be responsible for leading and growing the facility as we continue to service the needs of our current and future customers.”Kuehne joined Bollinger in 2011 and has held the positions of Assistant Estimating/Project Coordinator, Estimating/Project Coordinator, Assistant Operations Manager and Operations Manager.

U.S. shipbuilding and repair company Bollinger Shipyards said it has taken delivery of a new drydock at its Bollinger Algiers facility. The new drydock Mrs. Jody adds 4,000 tons total lifting capacity to the New Orleans shipyard. “This drydock will position us well in the diverse customer markets that we serve, and will further enhance our position in the market with lifting capacity needed by our customers,” said Bollinger CEO and president, Ben Bordelon. The Mrs. Jody drydock measures 198-ft. x 76-ft. between the wing walls and has lifting capacity of 4,000 tons.

Vigor Industrial inform that the owner of Seward Ship’s Drydock has signed a letter of intent to sell the assets of the Seward, Alaska, shipyard company to Vigor Industrial. Seward Ship’s Drydock operates as a full service shipyard and drydock facility, in Seward, Alaska. Under the terms of the tentative deal, the Seward shipyard would join Vigor as a subsidiary of the company’s Vigor Alaska subsidiary. The M/V Susitna is an Office of Naval Research (ONR) platform demonstrating variable geometry/variable draft capability in a twin hull marine vessel. Tests and trials of this first of class vessel will demonstrate its ability to operate as a deep draft, high speed vessel capable of carrying large payloads in high sea states with a stable ride, then transition to a shallow draft, beachable, landing craft mode capable of delivering Expeditionary Forces to the beach. M/V Susitna is an ice strengthened, twin hulled marine vessel.

During the second quarter of 2006, occupancy rates on North American cruises rose to 112 percent, the highest second quarter occupancy over the last 4 years, according to figures released by the U.S. The report found that 15.7 million passenger nights were booked on North American cruises, up 2 percent from the same period a year earlier. About 2.4 million passengers were carried on 1,065 cruises by the seventeen largest cruise lines, Growth figures (year to year) were lower than in recent years, due in part to a lull in new ship deployments. “The cruise ship industry is one of the fastest growing marine transportation sectors in the world and is very important to the American economy,” said Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton.
