Predictive Tech Could Extend Tank Inspection Intervals on LNG Carriers

Inspection intervals for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier membrane tanks could be safely extended thanks to monitoring technology and predictive maintenance, according to a study led by GTT Group, Lloyd’s Register and Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited.The International Gas Carriers (IGC) Code and IACS UR Z16 rules require LNG carrier cargo tanks to be inspected internally every five years. GTT and Ascenz Marorka Win CMA CGM Service Contract

GTT has signed a Technical Services Agreement (TSA) with the CMA CGM Group for maintenance and operation services for 49 biomethane and e-methane ready LNG-powered container vessels all equipped with GTT's Mark III, Mark III Flex and Recycool technologies.The agreement includes GTT on-site technical assistance for inspection, maintenance, repairs, operations and engineering services. GTT Training will offer its extensive training program for onshore personnel and CMA CGM sea going crew.

Shaft Power Monitoring Solution Earns BV Type Approval

Ascenz Marorka, a GTT Group company, announced that it has been granted a Type Approval certification for its ShaPoLi solution by the classification society Bureau Veritas.Designed to help shipowners and operators comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing ship carbon intensity by 40% by 2030, the solution monitors propeller shaft power and signals an alert in the wheelhouse if it exceeds the EEXI calculated maximum power. The system logs the periods where the limit was exceeded and enables crew to give comments.

GTT Acquires Marorka

French LNG containment specialist  Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has acquired 100 percent of the share capital of the Icelandic smart shipping specialist Marorka.Based in Iceland and specialized in Smart Shipping, Marorka designs maritime energy monitoring and optimization systems for vessels, allowing them to reduce their environmental footprint. Verifavia Shipping Leads in EU MRV and IMO DCS IT System Certification

Marorka to Deploy Vessel Performance Solutions

Abu Dhabi's ADNATCO & NGSCO, the shipping arm of ADNOC and its group of companies, has signed an MOU with Marorka, incorporated and registered in Iceland, a leading company in marine energy management, to supply and install ship performance monitoring systems for the ADNATCO & NGSCO fleet. The agreement was signed by Dr. Ali Obaid Al-Yabhouni, CEO of ADNATCO & NGSCO, and by Ole Skatka Jensen, CEO of Marorka, on the side lines of ADIPEC 2015 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. “This agreement is part of our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and optimizing the energy efficiency of our fleet using the trusted technology of our partner Marorka,” Dr. Al-Yabhouni said after the signing ceremony.

Marorka Opens Offices in Copenhagen

Marorka announced it is currently expanding following a substantial injection of funds. The expansion plan was approved and Marorka will extend its worldwide network in 2014. Unmanned Ships Now a Reality

Drones do it and spacecraft have too, for many years. Recently, also, automobile makers and small boat makers have introduced their first autonomous vehicles on the streets, and waterways. Unmanned vessels on the ocean is no longer a dream – it is a reality. And according to those in the know, the reality will really start to come to fruition in the coming decaded. The MUNIN project (Maritime Unmanned Navigation through Intelligence in Networks) is investigating potential concepts for a fully or partially unmanned merchant vessel. The case ship is a dry bulk carrier of handymax size, operating on routes between Europe and South America in the beginning.
