Maersk Container Launches Cold Chain Energy Meter

Maersk Container Industry is introducing an energy meter with its Star Cool refrigerated containers. Star Cool refrigerated containers are now fitted with a new embedded digital feature that offers visibility and precise knowledge of actual energy consumption. To provide transparency into actual energy consumption throughout the transportation window, over land and sea, Maersk Container Industry (MCI) is introducing an energy meter feature integrated into all new Star Cool refrigerated containers. Maersk Line, the world’s largest container shipping company and part of Maersk’s Transport & Logistics division, became the first of MCI’s customers to take delivery of the new Star Cool reefers at the start of the year.

New Coating Thickness Measurement Tool

Oxford Instruments has introduced a new tool for coating thickness measurement and materials analysis.This new model, the MAXXI 6, is based on X-ray fluorescence technology.It encompasses a high resolution silicon drift detector (SDD), measuring thinnest coatings down to thenanoscale and element composition at trace level to ensure high quality control for up to date industrial standards. The MAXXI 6 is made in Taunusstein, Germany and approved by the PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt) for the highest level of radiation safety. Coating thickness measurement based on X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a widely accepted and industry-proven analytical technique, offering easy to use, fast and non-destructive analysis requiring little to no sample preparation.

IMO Commends KPI Project

The International Maritime Organisation has commended InterManager for its work to introduce an industry-wide standard measurement tool, known as the KPI Project. In a letter to the InterManager Secretary General, the IMO's head of Policy and Planning, Ms A Rothwell, congratulated InterManager on the progress made through its "continued commitment and hard work". "I commend you on the project objective to raise the quality of shipping standards globally," she wrote. George Hoyt, an InterManager Vice-President, welcomed the positive feedback: "This letter is 100% result of a team effort. I have never participated in a project where there has been better team work, support and cooperation between shipping companies and other industry stakeholders in every aspect of the project.
