Fincantieri Active in Megayacht Repair & Construction Sector
Maintenance of megayacht 'Eclipse' at the Trieste San Marco shipyard recently completed, other projects on hand. In the four weeks work, 70 workers were employed in the repairs and refitting of the megayacht 'Eclipse'. With the drydocking of the “Eclipse”, Fincantieri confirms its presence in the high value megayacht sector in which they already boast the delivery in 2011 of 134m MY “Serene", which they claim is the largest most luxurious and technologically advanced craft ever built in Italy.

Blohm + Voss to Open Refit Facility for Megayachts
Blohm+Voss has announced that it has won the tender for the set-up of a new maintenance and refit facility for megayachts in La Ciotat, in the South of France. The company will partner with “La Ciotat Shipyards” (managed by SEMIDEP-Ciotat), the local company in charge of the site development which is providing a large dry-dock and neighboring workshop premises embedded within the existing shipyard. Blohm+Voss will utilize this new facility in the heart of the Mediterranean to maintain and service megayachts over 80 meters in length. Operation is planned to start in November 2016.
Azimut Planing-Megayacht Under Construction
Azimut starts construction on 42-meter triple-deck planing megayacht Azimut Yachts announced the start of construction of their 42-meter planing megayacht. The largest of the line the new model include accommodation for twelve guests in five cabins as well crew size of ten. Technically, she will have a top speed in the region of 22-knots with cruising at 17-knots. All to be made possible via her intended twin MTU 16V 4000 M93L engines. Sevmash Shipyard Starts Second Oceanic Megayacht
The construction of the second oceanic megayacht of the A1331 class started at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk on Tuesday, according to sources. The construction of the first yacht began last year to order of the Baltika Shipbuilding Company. Sevmash has technologically prepared for batch production of large cruise vessels. The yacht was designed by the Agat Design Bureau based in St. Petersburg. The shipyard has enlarged the yacht length by four meters and the traveling range by 2,000 miles. A helicopter pad was built on the yacht deck. The mega-yacht is 71 meters long, eleven meters wide, has the maximum speed of 18 knots (about 33 kilometers per hour), the traveling range of 8,000 miles, and the crew of 14. M/Y Ronin, the 192 ft. Lurssen owned by Oracle Corporation founder/CEO Larry Ellison, has arrived at Knight & Carver YachtCenter and is now undergoing a refit project scheduled for completion by August 2005. According to Captain Steven Bates, the project’s emphasis will be on extensive audio/visual and IT upgrades, cabinet carpentry throughout all state rooms, re-caulking of the teak decks and hull paintwork. A full-time crew of Knight & Carver’s talented tradesmen has been assigned to Ronin. The most subtantial portion of the project will be completed on Knight & Carver’s 300’ drive-on dock, with haul-out at nearby Knight & Carver’s partner, Southwest Marine. Knight & Carver’s Cliff Mayo is serving as project manager.

Palmer Johnson Opens New Office
According to reports, Palmer Johnson has opened the Isle of Wight office, and megayacht production could start soon. The design and engineering team opened the office at Venture Quays, East Cowes. Palmer Johnson builds some of the fastest. The Isle of Wight Economic Partnership and SEEDA have been working with Palmer Johnson since 2006, and hope to finalize this investment by the end of 2007. Jörg Beiderbeck, recognized as a figure among the world’s top megayacht designers, has passed away at the age of 69 on the evening of Sunday, August 2, at his home in Bremen-Vegesack, after a long illness. He leaves behind his long-term partner as well as a son and a daughter. beiderbeck designs GmbH has lost not only the man who gave it its name, but one of its four partners. Genting Completes Purchase of 3 shipyards
Genting Hong Kong, announced the completion of the acquisition of Nordic Yards’ three shipyards in Wismar, Warnemunde and Stralsund, Germany for the consideration of 230.6 million Euros. Chinese Customer Signs Up for CRN Megayacht
CRN say they have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with a Chinese client for a 68 metres superyacht, the biggest vessel ever sold by CRN and Ferretti Group in China. The historic Italian shipyard of Ancona, part of Ferretti Group, which specialises in the construction and sale of fully-customised displacement megayachts, ranging from 40 to 90 metres in length, will build the new vessel. The 68 metres in length and 12.50 metres in breadth megayacht, to be built of steel and aluminium, is designed by Zuccon International.

Knight & Carver Acquires 4K Ton Dry Dock
Knight & Carver YachtCenter has acquired a 4,000-ton dry dock for its refit and repair operations. With the acquisition, financed by a locally-based investment group, Diligence & Company LLC, Knight & Carver will provide the largest lifting capacity for megayachts and commercial vessels on the West Coast, and one of the largest such lifts in the United States. Knight & Carver will operate the dry dock, named Diligence, under an exclusive, long-term lease arrangement with Diligence & Company LLC, along with investment partner Fraser’s Services, a San Diego-based boat repair firm. Full dry-dock operations are expected to begin by August. Knight & Carver already has secured a commitment for a significant megayacht refit project scheduled for August.
Sonardyne Sentinel Diver Detection System for Megayacht
A Sonardyne Sentinel diver detection sonar is to be supplied as part of an integrated security package for one of the world’s largest megayachts currently under construction in a European shipyard. Sonardyne is working with MarineGuard Systems Ltd, the yacht’s security systems integrator, to provide a Sentinel Intruder Detection Sonar and an electro-hydraulic through-hull deployment system. This will consist of gate valves, extension tubes, coffer dam and associated ancillaries and will enable the immediate automatic deployment and recovery of the Sentinel sonar array.
Costa Crociere Receives Yacht Design Award
Pier Luigi Foschi, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Costa Crociere Spa, was on hand at the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa to collect the prize awarded to the Genoese company for the construction of the Costa Fortuna, the new 105,000 gross tonnage vessel due to enter into service at the end of 2003, which will be the largest cruise ship ever to fly the Italian flag. On October 11, the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa was the venue for the “Yacht Design Award 2002”, presented to leading figures, shipyards and shipping companies that have made outstanding contributions to seafaring through pleasure vessels and cruise ships based on cutting-edge technology and design.
