Port Security: Autonomous ANTX

Geophysical seismic surveys and port security may appear to have little in-common. However, it turns out that managing complex marine seismic operations, where 10km-long seismic streamers have to be deployed harmoniously alongside other offshore marine assets, isn’t that dissimilar to managing – and protecting – port facilities.It's an area that ION Geophysical, more known for seismic data acquisition technology, has recently been proving its expertise in, using its Marlin system for marine operations management.

With three species of migrating cod to fish and new commercial species arriving as oceans warm, Norway is a fisheries Valhalla. Yet, recent boat sales suggest the Scandinavian country’s role is changing. Vessel orders and rules in Norway are propping up yards and designers on Europe’s fringes. Medium-sized hull orders for Romanian, Russian and Turkish boat builders are new, while large vessel orders for Denmark or Spain continue apace. Unconventional Icelandic designs, too, are gaining ground here as catches and profits soar.

US Navy is Buying the Wrong Ship, Costing Taxpayers Billions

The United States will spend $585 billion on its armed forces in 2015 — the biggest military budget in the world by far. That’s just the Defense Department budget and doesn’t include the tens of billions of dollars that Washington spends on veterans, the purview of the Veterans Administration, or nuclear-weapons development, which falls under the Department of Energy. There’s tremendous pressure in Congress to spend less. Though the Pentagon argues vehemently that budget cuts will harm national security…

At the same time, Gulf of Mexico builders have responded to meet new regulations, customer needs. Wildcat Takes Delivery of Blyth 17m Workcat

Windfarm support company Wildcat Marine has taken delivery of the first 17-metre Blyth Workcat. The new boat was handed-over in Southampton, UK, and is now based in Barrow in Furness from where it is currently providing support services for the Walney Wind Farm. The new boat, “Wildcat 3”, is the largest catamaran ever built by Blyth Workcats and the company is confident that it will introduce a new standard of performance and economy for the wind farm support industry. The new 17-metre boat is the third Blyth Workcat to be owned by Wildcat Marine.
