The hull assembly phase of the 180,000-gt Carnival Mardi Gras was celebrated in Finland with a traditional coin ceremony at Meyer Turku shipyard. In the case of Carnival Mardi Gras, the assembly of the ship hull had already began few weeks before by the arrival of floating engine room unit from another Meyer shipyard, Neptun Werft, in Rostock, Germany.Mardi Gras is the second LNG powered cruise ship being built at Meyer Turku, and this ship will benefit from some of the investments of Meyer Turku’s $224 million  investment program.

For the first time in the history of the cruise company AIDA Cruises, a whole family will christen the newest ship AIDAnova. The Mirza family from Hanau in Hesse was selected from hundreds of applicants by a jury.On August 31, 2018 Sonja and Asad Mirza with their children Sophia and Adrian will christen the newest ship of the AIDA fleet. It is expected that 25,000 spectators will attend the event at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, which will include a christening show and a live concert by star DJ David Guetta.

As part of the international trade conference "Making LNG Happen: Combining Forces for Sustainable Shipping," 80 representatives from the fields of business, politics and science visited the cruise ship AIDAprima in Rotterdam on Thursday, January 26, 2017. The guests included Dirk Brengelmann, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Netherlands and his Norwegian colleague Martin Sørby. Hosting the event onboard AIDAprima was symbolic and significant, AIDAprima was the first cruise ship in the world that uses a dual-fuel engine to produce its energy from LNG while docked at port.

With the birthday of the cruise ship AIDAcara on June 7, 2015, AIDA Cruises is heralding the 20th year of its company history. On Sunday evening, more than 20,000 guests will toast together aboard the 10 AIDA ships, opening the anniversary celebrations. “AIDA – an inspiring smile. The original turns 20” is the slogan of the anniversary campaign, which will provide inspiration until the end of 2016 with exciting insights into the history of the modern cruise along with a variety of promotions and events. “With the commissioning of AIDAcara, we triggered a revolution in the cruise market, and for the first time we also generated a great deal of enthusiasm for this type of vacation among young and lifestyle-oriented people.

While economies across Europe have essentially bumbled, stumbled and fumbled in the wake of the global economic meltdown, Germany has remained comparitively strong. Despite the general migration of shipbuilding to the Far East, we decided to check in on the current status of this proud nation with a strong maritime heritage. German shipbuilders concentrated in 2012 on building cruise ships, megayachts, freight ferries and additional high-value, specialty ships. In total, nine German shipyards across 12 shipbuilding sites supplied 21 sea going ships with a total tonnage of 473,700.

Siemens Industry Solutions Division has received an order from the Meyer Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, to equip another club ship for the AIDA Cruises shipping company with diesel-electric propulsion systems, and power generation and distribution systems. The scope of supply also includes the automation equipment which will control and monitor all the on-board functions. The value of this order lies in the lower double-digit million euro range. When the new passenger ship comes into service in the spring of 2013, it will be the seventh AIDA ship to be equipped with Siemens technology.

With the classification of the gas tanker MT Gaschem Nordsee, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has passed the 80 million gross tons threshold. More than 6,870 ships are currently surveyed on a regular basis by Germanischer Lloyd. September 2007. The MT Gaschem Nordsee, flying the German flag, was delivered in late March by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)/ethylene tanker is the first of four gas tankers of the same hull type to be built in Germany by 2010 by the Meyer shipyard and its sister firm Neptun Shipyard.

On 13 February 2009, the new 69,200-gt club ship of the cruise company AIDA Cruises left the building dock of the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg / Germany. In the late afternoon, AIDAluna made her first appearance and breathed fresh air for the first time. On Saturday 14 February, at 8.30 am, the ship was then moved in front of the harbour lock, so that a couple of tests could be performed. The undocking of the ship and the performed tests ran absolutely smoothly. On the fitting-out-pier of the Meyer shipyard the remaining works on the ship will be finished.

On September 15, the Norwegian Gem will be transported from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The latest luxury liner in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet will be powered by five 12V48/60B engines from MAN Diesel, the Augsburg-based large-bore diesel engine specialist. The engines' combined output is 97,800 hp. In 2004, MAN Diesel also supplied five engines for the liner's sister ship Norwegian Jewel. In a field trial in May 2007, one of the engines was converted to common rail technology during the crossing from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. With the two new ship orders from Celebrity Cruises and DCL, common rail technology is already becoming the standard.

AIDA Cruises achieved an exceptional increase in its annual results for the business year 2005. With a turnover of € 375 million and a total of 233,000 passengers, AIDA Cruises has had its most successful year since the company was founded. Around 10% more guests spent their holiday on board an AIDA Club Ship than in the previous year 2004. Sales also rose from € 370 million to € 375 million. The increase in turnover is lower than that for passenger numbers on account of a considerable reduction in flight volumes. AIDA Cruises has initiated a number of major investment projects during the last financial year with, for example, three new AIDA vessels being built at the Meyer Shipyard in Papenburg at a cost of € 945 million.
