Dual-fuel Escort Tug for Østensjø Rederi

The first of three new dual fuel RAstar 4000-DF class extreme escort tugs, the Dux, has been delivered to Østensjø Rederi AS by Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondán S.A. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., the 40.2 meter vessel is the first of a three boat order from Østensjø for severe weather operations at Statoil's Melkøya LNG Gas terminal at Hammerfest in the extreme north of Norway. These escort tugs will conduct approximately 300 LNG ship escorts annually, assist with berthing operations and will be maintained in readiness for emergency services such as long line towing…

Coast Guard's 3rd Fast Response Cutter launched

The Coast Guard announced Wednesday the launch of its third Sentinel-class, Fast Response Cutter, the William Flores, at Bollinger Shipyards, Lockport, La. The launch of the William Flores into the waters of Bayou Lafourche marks a production milestone as the Fast Response Cutter readies for sea trials, delivery, crew training and eventual commissioning.“The Coast Guard’s new Fast Response Cutters are national assets, unique to the United States and uniquely equipped to respond to all threats and all events in times of crisis,” said Cmdr. Chris O’Neil, chief of media relations for the U.S. Coast Guard. “The Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutters will be capable of speeds in excess of 28 knots and operating in seas up to 18-feet.

Ultra Anchor Gets ABS Superior Holding Certification

Quickline, an importer and distributor of quality marine gear and accessory products, announced that its Ultra Anchor meets the highest level of holding power as defined by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and has been awarded the certification of design assessment for Stainless Steel Superior Holding Power (SHP) for restricted service to a maximum anchor weight of 1500 kg (3306 lbs). SHP for restricted service is given to anchors with superior holding power of at least four times that of ordinary anchors. Using tests that conform to the ABS Anchor Sea Test Procedure performed in sand, mud and gravel at average sea depths of 32.5 feet (10 meters), the Ultra Anchor exceeds ABS requirements.

New Offshore Equipment Contracts for Maritime Pusnes

The Aker Kvaerner subsidiary, Maritime Pusnes, has had a busy start to the new year winning contracts for over NOK 180 million. The contracts involve both marine and offshore equipment demonstrating MP's strength in both these market sectors. Two contracts to supply mooring and riser pull-in equipment for a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel that will be located off the coast of Angola. The mooring equipment consists of 12 underwater (hull-mounted) fairleads for 146 mm chain. Two large linear wire winches will be supplied to pull in and tension the mooring lines. In addition, 12 deck-mounted chain stoppers and overboard fairleads will be produced.

Workboats: The World's Largest OSV

There are several large offshore service vessels working in the Gulf of Mexico, but none so big and powerful as the Laney Chouest. At 348 ft. long by 72 ft. wide with a 31-ft. deep hull, the Laney Chouest simply dwarfs anything in the Gulf. Built by Edison Chouest Offshore, Galliano, La. at their North American Shipbuilding facility, the vessel is already at work in the Gulf on a charter for Shell Offshore. "This vessel was designed and built for a very specific mission-to preset mooring systems in 10,000 ft. of water safely and efficiently," said Roger White, senior vice president of Edison Chouest Offshore. "The real market for this vessel will be in the 5,000-10,000 ft.
