MPCC Secures Funding for Two Dual-Fuel Methanol Containerships

Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has signed a $55 million pre and post-delivery ECA covered financing agreement with Deutsche Bank and SINOSURE for its two dual-fuel methanol newbuildings.The vessels are scheduled for delivery towards the end of 2024 and are secured by 15-year time charter agreements with North Sea Container Line (NCL). Unifeeder to Add Two More Methanol-powered Vessels

Unifeeder Group announced it has completed a long-term charter agreement for two additional methanol-capable container feeder vessels. This follows the agreement for two initial vessels announced in October 2023. The latest agreement is in partnership with German-based ship owning group Elbdeich Reederei and Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC), who are responsible for one vessel each. MPCC Announces Newbuild and Retrofit Plans

MPC Container Ships (MPCC) on Monday announced plans to retrofit several of its ships and build one new vessel as part of its ongoing fleet renewal and decarbonization strategy.The Norwegian shipowner said it has entered into joint retrofit agreements with various charter customers, under which both the charterer and MPCC will share the costs of retrofit investments followed by an extension of the vessels time-charter contracts. MPCC also said it has partnered with Denmark-based Unifeeder in a joint investment for the construction of a 1,250 TEU dual-fuel methanol newbuilding.

Chemfleet to Fit 3 More Ships with Berg Upgrade for Fuel Efficiency

MPC Container Ships Orders Two "Carbon-neutral" Container Ships

ZIM Strikes Deal to Charter Six 5,500 TEU Newbuilds

Israeli shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services (NYSE: ZIM) on Wednesday announced a new charter transaction with a group of investors initiated by MPC Capital AG, according to which ZIM will charter a total of up to six 5,500 TEU wide beam newbuild vessels for a period of seven years and total charter hire consideration of approximately up to $600 million.The vessels will be constructed at Korean-based shipyard, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (formerly known as Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co.) and are scheduled to be delivered between May 2023 and February 2024.

MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC) announced it has reached a deal to acquire fellow Norwegian-based container shipping company Songa Container AS for $210.25 million on a debt and cash free basis. Wilhelmsen Ship Management, a provider of third-party ship management services headquartered in Singapore, and the Hamburg-based asset and investment manager MPC Capital AG have agreed to combine their activities in the technical management of containerships. Seaborne Box Trade to Remain Flat: MPC

Growth in global seaborne box trade is expected to remain largely constant in 2019, with Non-Mainlane trade being an important driver while Mainlane trades expected to expand only moderately, said Norway-based MPC Container Ships ASA.In particular, the pace of global manufacturing remains a cause for concern as growth rates in Europe and Asia have been disappointing, the owner and operator of container ships said in a stock exchange annoucement.Present year container trade is estimated to grow by about 3.6%, whereas Transpacific trades grow by 0.5%, Far East Europe trades with 2.0% North-South trades with 3.7%, Other East-West with 4.1% and Intra-Regional trades with 4.9%.Trade tariffs and the threat thereof will remain a key issue in 2019.

Container Ship Deliveries Down in H1 2019

Container ship deliveries in H1 2019 reached a historically low level, while the newbuilding market was equally subdued, said MPC Container Ships ASA.Scrapping activity in the feeder segment remained at a comparable high level in Q2 2019 as in the previous quarter, the Norway-based shipping company said.Various economic and political circumstances had a dampening effect on global container trade, compelling analysts to lower their full-year growth forecasts. However, estimates for global container trade growth for FY 2019 ranges between 3% and 3.5% while growth in active container fleet capacity (fleet development less scrubber retrofits) is estimated to grow only 1.9%.Charter rates for container ships in the Post-Panamax segment began to rise in March this year.
