The Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) teamed up with Coast Guard Cutter Campbell’s crew this summer to evaluate five technologies as part of the RDC’s annual Arctic Technology Evaluation. MPA Launches Videotel's Training for Safe Navigation in Singapore Strait

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has released a training programme, produced by Videotel, a KVH company, to encourage safe navigation in the Singapore Strait. Carrying an estimated one third of the world’s traded goods, the Singapore Strait is one of  world’s busiest shipping lanes  the world’s busiest shipping lanes. Thome Ship Management Selects KVH Media

KVH Media Group, distributor of licensed films to the maritime market, and part of KVH Industries, Inc., has announced an agreement with Thome Ship Management to provide 41 Thome vessels with the MOVIElink service. Part of the Thome Group, Thome Ship Management will initially roll out the MOVIElink service to product tankers and LPG carriers. The MOVIElink service delivers films, including the latest releases, to vessels around the world, contributing to more productive and loyal crews, and assisting shipping companies in complying with the standards and recommendations of MLC-2006. These recommendations include providing regularly replenished film entertainment to crew members.

Arbor Solution Adds Ultra-Small Chassis System

Arbor Solution has added an ultra-small boxed chassis system to its lineup of transportation box PCs. Designed for a wide range of applications, the new IEC-3300 is based on the Intel Atom processor E3800 series (formerly code-named ‘Bay Trail’) and an Intel Celeron dual-core processor N2807 or a quad-core processor J1900. Malaysia Backs Maritime Silk Road

Malaysia is ready for greater collaboration and cooperation with China with regard to Maritime Silk Road (MSR) proposal delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that his Ministry has identified a few ports in Malaysia to be part of the MSR. The sources in the Ministry said that Malaysian side is supportive on the incentive of building the Maritime Silk Road and have been keeping an open mind on it. Malaysia is a trading nation, and it has a number of sea ports, including, for example, Port Klang. Malaysia is in the process of developing port cities collaboration between Qinzhou Port (of China) and the Kuantan Port (of Malaysia).

AMSEC Wins Two US Navy Contracts

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has been awarded two contracts in support of the United States Navy. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., awarded a contract to AMSEC for technical and logistical support services, as well as material kitting services, for U.S. Navy LCC 19-class Amphibious Command ships. Material kitting services involve the pre-packaging of materials required to complete a specific task. Amphibious Command ships provide command and control for fleet commanders. A total of three indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts were awarded for these services with a combined maximum dollar amount of $96.8 million. AMSEC LLC was also awarded the initial delivery order valued at $1.2 million.

Ingalls' Newest Large-Deck Amphibious Ship Returns

Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division's multipurpose amphibious assault ship America (LHA 6) returned Saturday from successful builder's sea trials in the Gulf of Mexico. Ingalls' test and trials team started with dock trials Monday and then spent five days operating the ship at sea, where it conducted more than 200 test events. "It's an awesome feeling riding this ship, knowing the hard work that took place to get her ready for sea trials," said George Jones, Ingalls' LHA 6 program manager. Seven Videotel training courses have been approved by the Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR/the Liberian Registry). This makes 17 total Videotel courses approved by LISCR and further cements Videotel’s long term connection with the Liberian Registry.
